The forensics team showed once again this year that there is an interest in public speaking at Prairie High. The team had the most member turnout in the history of the school. Coached by Kayla Mezera, Pat George, Charlene Boom, and Mary Ann Garrity, they captured the sub-District trophy by defeating North Crawford. Twelve members made it out of the District competition in Platteville and competed at the State Contest in Madison on April 20th, 1985. Ratings for forensics changed in 1985. No longer were participants awarded A’s, B’s, or C’s. Contestants were rated with exact scores. Debbie Baxter earned the only perfect score for the Prairie team. She earned a perfect twenty-five. Baxter was awarded the Critic’s Choice Award. The Annual staff regrets that a picture of the entire forensics team could not be printed. The picture of the team was destroyed in the summer moving process. 62 Library Club Top: Library Club: Sitting: A. Wolf. M. Hertrampf. L. Speth. M. Tieman. C. Check. C. Conley. C. Orient. T. Yonke. A Garrity This year the Student Council was very active in different aspects of the Students' lives. By decreasing the number of members of the 84-85 council to sixteen, the council was able to be more effective than in previous years. The council became involved in fund-raising projects, such as Oxfam America and Operation Santa Claus. (Other contributions included the girls’ softball team and the band.) In an effort to improve our school’s appearance, the group arranged to have the Art II Students paint murals for the walls. The council also provided funding for recarpeting the back stairway of the school. The council also recognized the honor students of 1985 by purchasing golden cords and Scholastic letters. Each member played a part in conducting a student survey on drinking, scheduling self-awareness week, and hosting an open house for parents of P.H.S. Students. Representatives of the council presented the school board with revisions to current dance rules, and an idea for a student code. The school board plans to act on the issues during the summer of 1985. The council purchased a Christmas tree for the winter months sponsored a “Legs” contest for the men of P.H.S. in accordance with the Sadie Hawkin's Day festivities. 70 I'm very aware of myself. 71 COUNCIL OFFICERS — Left to Right: Jane Stelsel (Secretary).
