SPECIAL EVENTS 5,000 feet of colored streamers ... 7 floats ... 10,000 chants of ITK ... 20 pounds of confetti ... 16 musical stars ... 250 tuxes ... 2 evenings with the Tones ... 184 tropical shirts ... 1 pair of Mr. Nelson's paisley bermuda shorts ... The 1983-84 school year hosted a wide range of events for PHS students. Homecoming started the year off with everything from punk rockers to beach bums. Homecoming week meant the annual panic for class officers to organize skits, floats, and window decorations while somehow maintaining their sanity. The most memorable events, of course, were the game and dance. And the year had just begun. Several dances were held throughout the year, including: Junior Fall, Sadie Hawkins, Senior Sweetheart, and Prom. Between dances there were other special events including the faculty vs. the Z-93 Pepsi Hot-shots and the music department's presentation of Once Upon a Matfress . The 1983-84 school year wound up with a not-so-successful Senior Skip Day. Though not many seniors skipped the entire day, as was tradition, many did finish the year with a staggering good time.

Foolin' in 83 Homecoming '83 During the week of October 11-16 pandemonium increased with the celebration of Homecoming. Class members organized among themeselves to create award-winning floats, windows and skits. Throughout the week's activities suspense mounted in anticipation of the crowning of the 1983 Homecoming queen at Thursday night's parade and bonfire celebration. Rich DuCharme nervously gave a speech on behalf of the football team while his fellow co-captain, Larry Stumpy Mara, crowned Deb Konichek as queen. Mary Ries, this year's chairman, was crowned the queen behind the scene by principal Jerry Hesselberg on behalf of the student council. Friday night's game went in the Hawks' favor as they easily downed the Bulldogs of Boscobel 27-6. To conclude the week of celebrating, the seniors hosted the Homecoming dance Saturday night at which all enjoyed themselves (see pictures).
