Page 106 The undergraduates make-up about seventy-five percent of the school enrollment. The majority of these students had a successful year while taking part in school activities, working toward their goals and just plain having fun. GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! This was the year for girl’s sports at Prairie High. The volleyball team claimed it’s first-ever trophy and conference title. The Girl’s Varsity basketball team finished what was their most successful season ever with a 21 and 1 record. See details in Sports Section. The class of ’83 heads for new horizons. “We’re the best as you can see, we’re the Class of 83.” This motto was started during their freshman year and has guided them ever since. On the other hand, the spring of 83 was what the winter should have been. On February 1st, P.d.C. had its first major blizzard. The snow lingered on until the end of March. The forecast for the summer is mildly warm with temperatures in the upper 80's-90’s. The infamous IOWA and MINNESOTA jokes!!! 3 P.H.S. The varsity ended the season with a 4-5 record. This record doesn’t do justice to the Hawks. Untimely injuries severely hampered Prairie the entire season. The record would have read differently with a healthy Blackhawk team. Prairie can look forward to next year. The Jr. Varsity ended up 5-3 under Pat Gasser. Report: A Great Season Sarah thinks, “Like how totally immature!' Kris says, “Wait up!” Becky thinks, “What agony!” The 1982 girl’s C.C. team had an excellent season. Outstanding frosh B. Fischer, K. Mundt, and M. Rink joined a varsity squad with Sr. Capt. B. Campbell; most valuable runner S. Walz; and sophomores C. Bauer, L. Sheckler, L. Kozelka, and C. Campbell. They finished the season with 2nd in sectionals, trailing only Mt. Horeb. Their future looks promising. Row 1: J. Stutzman, K. Kozelka, S. Rink, K. Mundt, B. Fischer, K. Moore, J. Witlacil, C. Bauer. Girls Make History The 1982-83 Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team finished what was their most successful season ever, with a record of 21 wins and 1 loss. The Hawk girls broke many records this season. They broke the Conference scoring record of 83 pts. by outscoring Boscobel 111 to 35 and the average scoring record in SVVAL, by averaging 67 pts. to the old average of 53. They became the first girls’ basketball team in the history of P.H.S., to go undefeated in SWAL play (12-0), to have a regular season record as undefeated (17-0), to become Regional Champs, and to go to the Sectional Finals. Despite the injury of Lisa Kozelka. the girls went on to capture the SWAL Conference title, and become Regional Champs. Lisa was a great loss to the team. After her injury the team played some difficult games. (Beating River Valley by two free throws made by Cindy Sheckler, by having to go into double overtime with Richland Center, and by only defeating Seneca by one point.) The Hawks only loss came in the Sectional Finals against Portage. (45-50) The Hawks stayed with the Warriors the whole game, but came out short in the end. Lisa Kozelka and Bridget Campbell made the First Team All Conference, while Cindy Sheckler made the Second Team All Conference. Tri Captains — Cindy Sheckler, Lisa Kozelka, and Bridget Campbell. This was seen when the girls held three of their opponents under ten points each. Their offensive average was 44.5 pts. scored each game, while they held their opponents to the average of 19.94 pts.
