The game stunned many people in Prairie du Chien as Prairie had one of the best teams in the area. Ron Stark and Brian Bcnish were elected to the All-Conference first team. Coach Gerry Gilbertson entered the season with 28 boys, including 10 hopeful returning letter winners. Throughout the Spring, the boys won every invitational in which they participated. They brought home the gold from the Willard Hanson Relays, PDC Relays, and Viroqua's Blackhawk Invite. Their success continued into the conference meet where they scored 148 points to outdistance Fennimore (129) and Richland Center (102) for the SWAL crown. It was Prairie’s third consecutive conference title. Prairie then entered the road to the state meet. Eight Hawk runners advanced through regionals to sectionals, but Larry Bonney was the only trackman to qualify for state. Larry, participating in the shot put, placed sixth at the state meet. Award winners for the boys' track team were Tom Oehlcr (MVP) and Larry Bonney (Captain).
