The Hawk harriers came off four years of dramatic success in which they finished 1st. 2nd. 3rd. and last year. 4th at the State meet. They had the talent, but couldn't make it past a tough Fennimore sectional meet this year. The veteran nucleus including Carol Pedretti, Mary Elvert, Amy Skemp. Michele Gokey. Donna Gillitzer. Mo Garrity. Noreen Stoehr. and Lisa David was joined by two new outstanding prospects, sophomore Brenda Kelly and freshman Janet Gillitzer. After a slow start at West Union on September 8. the team showed impressively into mid-season, winning trophies at three big invitationals. Injuries plagued the squad as they entered conference and sectional competition. Although they say goodbye to seniors Mo Garrity. Michele Gokey. The gymnasts were second in the Second Annual Prairie Invitational, and they were second in the 1980 SWAL Conference Meet with high placers Carol Pedretti on beam, setting a new school record with a score of 7.5, Becky Nicholson first on unevens with a score of 7.45. Carol fourth on unevens and Shelli sixth. On the floor Shelli was fourth and Carol seventh. Shelli took second on vault, and Carol tied for fourth. Freshman Lori Dickman took seventh. At sectionals at Viroqua, Carol placed in both the unevens and the beam and third in all-around. Shelli placed in the vault so both girls qualified for the 1980 WIAA Gymnastics Meet, which was held in Waukesha. Lori Dickman had a good day at sectionals, narrowly missing out going to state in the vault. Becky Nicholson took seventh on the unevens.
