HI LIGHTS .5 UNDPZR the supervision of tl1eir instructors, Miss Nona Deary, eighth grade, and Miss Lila Murton, seventh grade, the junior high students have participated in many activities. Un- doubtedly the most outstanding of them all is one through which two lives were saved and several serious accidents prevented-the safety patrol. This organization consists of eighth grade boys who, anlong other duties, patrol the school grounds, act as ushers at all school activities, frequently assist the local police, and help to promote community safety. Each year the members are sworn in by the chief of police and presented with official badges and belts. For the past four years the patrol has been sponsored by the Kiwanis club. Anything needed by the patrol is supplied by the club and the boys meet with the club once every year. Each year the patrol prepares some project for their sponsors. This year they prepared a safety exhibit. This year the patrol had an enrollment of twenty-three. Besides this, twenty-one girls acted as an auxiliary to the group. The officers were: ,lack Howe and Roland Welscll, lieu- tenantsg Earl Robertson, captaing and Miss Dcary, advisor. llembers of the junior high took an active interest in athletics. The boys had a basket- ball team of which they were mighty proud. ln the only inter-scholastic games played this year with St. Gabriel's and St. ,l0llll,S the junior high won from St. ,lohn's and lost to St. Gabriel's. Those making the team were: Donald Helleron, ,lack Howe, Philip Kieser, Her- bert Neisius, Earl Robertson, and Roland WClSl'll from the eighth grade and Forrest Berndt, Richard Bunders, Lyle Eber, John Kozelou and George Mardaus representing the seventh grade. Besides their school work these students had time for social life. Une of the social high- lights in their year was the annual Christmas party when gifts.were exchanged. The second red letter day was Valentine's Day, when another party was held. Seven girls from the eighth grade were members MISS MURTON MISS DEARY of the girl scouts. They were still classed as tender- foots, but were always eager to do their part in pro- moting this organization. The girls were: 'l'wila Ahrens, Maureen Alderman, Cleo Chamberlain, Pearl Forde, Rosemary Johnson. ,lean Ylarvin, and Charlene Stein- bcrg. 'llllI'0llQ.Zll0lll the year attractive posters to advertise all high school activities were made by the junior high. These students were also very efficient ticket-sellers and always bring in good returns for the high school. 25

HxN school opened in the fall thirty-three eager students, as seventh graders, took their places in the high school building for the first time. Their neighbors, the eighth grade, Z' number forty-four. The students of both gradcs arc peppy and enthusiastic and are alwavs ready to do their best in all things concerning their school. They have made their presence felt in many ways because of their eager participation iii almost every high school activity. Selling tickets for the high school, making artistic posters to advertise all school activities and adding their bit to pep rallies was only part of their work. Une of the first things done in preparation for the new year was the election of officers which resulted as follows in the eighth grade: Philip Kieser, President: Earl Robertson, Vice- Presidentg and Charlene Steinberg. Secretary-'llreasurer. Seventh grade oilicers were: Van Richmond, Gloria Robertson, and Virginia Cooper. Fifty per cent of the members of the eighth grade and thirty-six per cent of the seventh graders have consistently made the honor roll, proving that scholastically the junior high can cope with the high school. In the eighth grade 'l'wila Ahrens, Maureen Alderman, Cleo Cham- berlain, Lewis Cooley, Pearl Forde, Anita Goebel, Robert llammel, Irene llill, ,lack Howe, Rhea Huffman, Rosemary Johnson, Philip Kieser, Marion Kilburg, Betty La Pointe, ,lean llarvin, Dorothy Relnn, Earl Robertson, Ferne Schmitz. Charlene Steinberg, Aaron Trine, 1 Roland VVelsch, and Roy Yvest have nleritcd this distinction. Richard Runders, Virginia Cooper, ,lune Harwood, Robert lrwin, Donald Nlcliloskey, Gloria Robertson, Rodney Salter, and Woolly' Schmidt of the seventh grade were similarly honored.
