Our Journey To The Moon On the first Monday of September, 1949, a group of timid and amateur passengers boarded a small and fragile plane headed for a long and tedious journey to the moon. We had been warned by many who encountered such an experience in previous years that our trip would not always be smooth and easy going. Amidst huge airliners, jets, and space ships our dubious crew felt very insufficiently clad in their green colored space suits. But, being brave and unfaltering, we are determined to reach our destination. The first lap of our journey was highlighted by an initiation into the solar system. We also witnessed our first football and basketball games in which a few members of our crew participated. After a year's travel over rough and treacherous territory we have to stop for refueling where we change our method of travel to an airliner and continue our trip with more confidence than in the previous year. During the second lap we take a more active part in the solar activities. Pep meetings to cheer our Space Cadets on to victory and crew parties are some of the events in this period of our trip. Becoming more accustomed to our new surroundings the third lap of our journey in a high-powered jet is not as difficult. We began this year with various duties such as operating a concession stand at the football and basketball games. Later on we received crew rings which we shall wear to remember our trip through the solar system. Another outstanding feature of this part of our trip was a play presented by the members of our crew. We also were hosts to a banquet served to those in the space ship ahead of us. At last we were qualified to board the space ship where our duties and responsibilities were broadened. During the last year of our journey we witnessed the first homecoming and a Christmas party for all the mem- bers of the solar system. A very nice banquet was served by the Crew of '54 and we presented another play. An annual, published by our crew, will stand as a reminder of our short while in the solar system. The baccalaureate service and graduation exercise marked the end of our long journey through the solar system and at last our dream of some day reaching the moon was fully realized.
