Clem makes a great speech, but in doing so, greatly angers Miss Pringle, who is a big influence in town elections, This creates a touchy situation, because Clem's father is running for mayor: Clem doesn't realize Miss Pringle's anger and her parents keep it from her, but they consider the election a lost cause, After Clem has won the contest, she finds that she doesn't like the idea of defeating Hank and when he goes off with Cathyg it really hurts, But Clem is smart, First she gets a permanent and then she asks Hank over to help her with her geometry, About the time it looks like the problem is solved, Clem discovers that her carelessness will probably cause her dad to lose the elec- tion, Such things as kicking a football through Miss Pringle's picture window and that phrase about Hgossiping old maids just as Miss Pringle came down the aisle while Clem was giving her speech made the problem difficult, It takes the courage of a typical Amer- ican teen-ager to face Miss Pringle and admit where she is wrong and sell her on the idea of her dad's election program, but she does it, By doing so, she also wins Hank back, 42 if Yi fl I an Q Fx-V ,a si' 5+ , Zi - K .5 lu . . ,,,. ..., . .... , , '- ' 1:25:53 .... -1- -- Qzzzgliiiz l i :.E::,gggi::::i1,3.Q'iff5'5j:j:,,j.5,- ,Y if ...L .,.,.,1 :.,.- -.--:f:n!li??'1 ':'- '-' -.:.::::::::1.g .1.:.:-:..-.-.-.-.-,-:-:-:- ,., ,. uv- Z-M ,, ,. 5, ..
