Q L s I ' On a bright sunny day on September 5, 1952 thirty-one eager, open-eyed children faced their new teacher, Miss Florence Gittlh- ger for thelr first day of learning. Of the thirty-one, eleven of the original class remained to graduate in 1945, namelygE11se Bultenwerf, Joan Dewlt, Cecil Fifer, Clarence Gilbert, John Barry Kane, Lowell McFadden, Lawrence McFadden, Keith McFadden, Harold Robe ts, Harold Timmons and Raymond Steenhoek. In the fall of '42 twenty-nine scho1ars,who had lost some pf their tlmidlty and gained some dignity, started their sophomore year. Six of our former classmates d1dn't return. ' We began the junior year with everyone except Henry Plate Irene Steenhoek, and Pete Gulling. Thus we ended the junior year with great anticipation of the coming school term. These' girls are to be complimented on their efforts in keeping the band together after Irs Brittell, band instructor, resigned. The band members appreciate lisa Hatnes's cooperation after his departure. The Prairie City High School Band has stimulated pep meet- ings and given performances on special occasions during the year. V Boys' Glee Club The membership of the Boys' Glee Club nurbers six tenors and SSVBII basses . The organization is small but willing and the boys have en- joyed many a musical hour together. ' Girls' Gleev club Out of the fifty-four tryouts the above thirty girls iere selected for Girls' Glee Club and the remaining twenty-four lore entered in the music class. The girls lmve tackled their assignments with enthusiasm, lid diligently practiced their scales, Several of the girls are tek- ing individual vocal lessons and have sung at various functions. Vsnderhert The boys went through P successful football season, winning five out of-seven games. Many of the losses were due to injuries on the squad. The ten seniors graduating are: Lawrence McFadden Lowell McFadden, Clarence Gilbert, Raymond Steenhoek, Joe Timmins Harold Timmons, Harold Roberts, Harold Dalton, John Berry Kene, and Robert -Vanderhart. The following lettermen will return: Eugene Osborn and John Young. we wish the boys many victories on their new athletic field. X BUY BASKETBALL H The basketball boys enjoyed a successful season. They aver - aged more gains than losses leaving a fine record. They displayed skill which made Prairie City High School proud. Next year we will miss the graduating seniors: Harold Tinmons, Lowell Mc Fadden, Lawrence Mc Fadden Raymond Steenhoek, and the service will probably call Max Schuttlnga. They will lose two seniors, Elise Buitenwerf and Joan De Wit, but have a good prospective team, with the following lettermen returning: Ramona Wiggins, Marilyn Van Steenbergen, Marilyn-McFadden, Mary Lou McFadden, Marjorie Lee Schakel, Shirley Shawhan and Shirley Jennings. Good luck! The Prairie City High School Letter Club was organized by a group of ambitious athletes in the early thirties. ' The purpose of the club was to create more interest in athletics. There are three officers: president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer. .The vice-president is elected from the junior class and automatically becomes president the following year. The secretary-treasurer may be elected from any class, other than the senior class. The members now holding office are: president, Lawrence McFadden: vlcewprcsldent, lax Schuttingag secretary-treasurer, Ramona Wiggins. Anyone, who has been awarded a letter in athletics and has been voted in by a two-thirds majority of the old members is eli- giole for membership in the club. A meeting or session may be called at any ti e desired by the president. The 1944 and '45 members consisted of twenty-two athletes. They have earned letters by participating in football, basketball or baseball, anu also cheerleaders. Letters in basketball were alarded too late for this annual.
