Elevation Nine lfundx ed and nlnty--two feet nh: an-'damn ui I I S The town of Prague, Oklahoma, is located in southeastern Lincol County. Like many other Okla.homa communities, it's history goes back on ly slightly more than fifty yearsg for it was built on land that was for- merly a part of the old Sac and Fox Indian Reservation, The Cherokee Commission was appointed in 1885 by President Grover Cleveland for the purpose of giving allotments of 160 acres of land to each member of the tribes, The surplus land in the Indian Re- serves was sold to the government and opened to white settlement. The lands of the tribes having been divided into counties by the Secretary of Interior, as required by law, the President on September 1 1891, issued his proclamation opening them to settlement at noon four days later, The white settlement of the community where Prague now stands dates back to this opening of the Iowa, Pottawatomie, absentee Shawnee, and Sac and Fox Reservations in 18910 C O N T E N T S HIGHLIGHTS fl 8 POPULATION Ag V Male 680 Prague is located on two primary Highways--U. In the high school, five very dangerous plastered ceilings were removed and replaced by acoustical tile. Most of the classrooms were redecorated and new seats were plac ed in two classrooms. The grade school grounds have received considerable attention. The playground was ckiseled for re- tention of moisture, some grass re- planted and an irrigation system installed, two drains were built for the purpose of diverting water off the walks and ground and more than half the playground has been fenced with a good Cyclone Fence with the hope the remainder will be finished in the near future. Our transportation conditions are to be changed by the announced new road program by our County Com- missioner, to rock M5 to 50 miles of the routes with a high grade crushed stone. This will mean much toward the reduction of transporta- tion expenses and will give to our students regular arrival of busses at the designated stops which will prevent considerable weather ex- posure. During the year three school districts, Edmond, Arlington, and Oak Grove, were consolidated with Prague schools. Indirectly the fourth school was also involved, Pleasant Grove, which had joined the Arlington district the year before. This completely consoli- dates the transportation area of the Prague district and will now make it possible to establish bet- ter and more permanent bus routes and better service will be given to the pupils of the rural area. As a result of the consoli- dation both the enrollment and finances of the district have made some improvement. Most of our students have a continued interest in enrolling in the more solid subjects. As an 11- lustration the enrollment in the Mathematics and Science courses is considerably above the State aver- age. The Board of Education and faculty are making every effort to give to Prague and vicinity the fin- est schools that our finances and facilities will permit and the fine co-operation of the community to- ward tbis goal is meaning much in final results. Sincerely, GUY Principals Marvin H. Moore High School Principal Floyd Irick Orville Ashcraft Junior High Principal Grade School Principal Managing a business which involves the future of so many yommg lives is quite a responsibility, but Prague High School 's Principals guide functions and operations to keep things :mining smoothly. A. chapter have done a grand job acquainting the community with the homemaking program. began the year with the installation of our new officers and the ini- of serveral new members. The program was presented by the Stroud of Future H memakers. We tiation Chapter The national projects chosen by our chapter are Families Together, Civil Defense, and Unisco. At the community fair the chapter prepared an emergency food shelf for the home. Members also have volunteered to serve as ground observers in our local Civil Defense. The Unisco Gift Coupon Plan ls to help young women in Romallah and Jordon to set up a co-operative for their hand- work, also to help them purchase sewing and weaving equipment, projection equipment and instructional films. Our State projects are the same as last year, know your family and remem- bering the aging. Our annual Family Night Banquet was April ll. The theme for the banquet was the F. H. A. Rose Garden, and the program presented was an interpretation of our flower the red rose. To Carry out the ppgject, Remembering the gging, the girls visit the aged at the nursing home and take gifts, flowers, and fruit at Thanksgiving, Christ- mas, and Easter. Besides our usual local projects we have two new projects this Neighbors and the Polio Drive. The objective of World Neighbors is to provide ' Africa,a year, World the people in the underdeveloped areas of the world, such as India, and the Prhlippines, the same type of training we receive in our F. H. A., to teach the people to become self-sufficient so that thev may make their own way, The F. Ei. A. girls contributed 8103.55 to the polio drive from a potato chip sale they sponsered. Every person donated as they wished in exchange for pota- to chips. This group planned, prepared, and served dinner to district coaches and Christmas dinner to faculty. - Q -ls.. , Q 'DQ ' 1 ' ' ugly H .,, . , IN f .' N'.Q.z..-5 r:..
