X-V , ,M aux Last year 13 students took Uast year 18 students took Last year 22 students took Last year L3 students took Our Superintendent Although there were some improve- ments of the school plant during the year of 1956-57, yet perhaps the most important improvement was in the curr- iculum field which resulted in doubling the enrollment in the mathematics and science classes. The reasons for such increase in enrollment were, first, more classes were offered in math and science than previously. Second, students were ur- ged and encouraged to take every class possible in these fields. Third, the science room was modernized to make room for more students under much bet- ter conditions. This is illustrated hy a comparison of enrollments of last year and this year: plane geometry, this year 29 algebra, this year 38 biolog , this year S3 gen. science, this year h? Last year chemistry was not offered, this year 17 students were enrolled. High school arit metic is offered in addition to the above courses each year and next year Algebra II will be added to the list. The science room was completely re-equipped with a smaller but much more efficient teacher's experiment table, and new tables were added for all students in place of the old style desks. This made it possible to accomodate more students under much better conditions, and made the science room and all science courses much more attractive to students and teacher. The stabilized schedule of classes, which was made last year by the faculty, has also made it possible for students to take almost any subject offered in high school without conflict. The next improvement in our curriculum came about in the transportation for our Vocational Agriculture Department. Prior to this year the Board of Education has been buying a pick-up truck for the department and replacing when necessary. This made the original cost, repairs, and u keep too high for the school to maintain under present financial circumstances. This has been changed by an arrangement with Hr. Bob Teape of the Prague Motor Sales Co. to lease to the schools a new pick-up each year for S300.00. This arrangement means much to our agricultural classes as it permits us to have good and reliable trans- portation at all times at a very reasonable cost. This year's cost was born by the sale of the old pick-up. Hith the work done this year the electrical wiring in the Junior-Senior high school has almost been completely replaced. This not only adds to the efficiency in lighting for students but has reduced the fire hazard very materially. The Board of Education and faculty are making every effort to give to Prague the finest schools that our finances and facilities will permit, and the splendid cooperation of the community is meaning much toward the achieve- fdeffeere ment of this objective. Prlnclpal Personalities Rising with the state, growing with it, struggling with it, paralleling its advance ment, has been our educational system and our great promoters of education Oklahoma has always been marked by the fearless spirit of the pioneer, and many in teresting stories are told how these promo ters worked vehemenlly to start the school system needed It is hard to measure the results and progress of educational opportunities in Oklahoma made by those who are confronted with the problems of our schools, but to- day we can see a promising and brzght fu ture for our schools We can give thanks to those who have made the recent struggle Our efficient principals of the Prague Publis Schools have exercised a general sup- ervision over the affairs of our school They have the best interest of every pupil Their enthusiastic and friendly spirit is a real asset to our school Besides perform ing their official duties, our principals are glad to take time to discuss problems with parents and students As long as this spirit prevazls Oklahoma schools will push forward Marvin H Moore Senior High Floyd S Irick Junior High Delbert D Birchfield Grade School dllr ,J 151 . . As another school year rolls to a close the Future Homemakers can be proud of their many worthwhile achievements. Planning for the year's work was done during the month of August when the executive committee and our club mothers met at the park. National, state, and local projects were discussed and those which seemed to need our help most were chosen as projects for our club. Civil defense, one of the national projects, was stressed during the first week in September when the girls displayed a booth for the Community Fair, using the theme WWhat's In Grandma's Pantry.U Other national projects we have done are WFamilies Togethern and WTeen-Age Consumer.' The state projects chosen were NKnow Your Familyn and nRemembering the Aging.U 'Know Your Familyn is a phase of the National Project, 'Families Together,' with particular emphases on parent-teen-age understanding. The annual F.H.A. banquet was planned with this project in mind, as this is the one time of the year that the members of F.H.A. and their families are all together. For a local project, the F.H.A. girls served meals to the monthly aeetings of the Chamber of Commerce. This project proved very satisfactory. This completes one of our most successful years. A group of fine boys who are endeavoring to better themselves by adapting better methods of farming. They also improve themselves in leadership abilities work- ing together and co-operating for the betterment of the com unity. The services are many that these boys perform for their community and its residents - not to gain monitary wealth but for the purpose of improving their proficiency in doing a job. AGRICULTURE The Backbone of the Nation's Economy Oklahoma's agriculture, too, is extremely varied. Her 45,000,000 acres show more diversity of soil groups than any other state's, and her climate also has wide variation. Growing season ranges from 180 to 240 days, and rainfall varies from 15 to 60 inches. 0 lv This page is representative of some of the outstanding accomplishments of the members of the organization. The top picture is of boys who have received the top degree given by a state or- ganization. That of Junior Plaster Farmer of State Famer. The fortunate boys are Thomas Loaflan, Charles K.o1ar,Junior, and Charles Pechacek. Thomas Loafnan and Charles Kolar, Junior received top Rational Foundation awards in the Swine and miry Farming respectively. The lover picture is of Governor lhymond Cary making presentation of the coveted Gooner's Award to Charles Kolar, Junior. The award is given to the top Junior lhster Farmer in the state who is selected first as the District Star Famer and then the State Star Famer is select- ed fron the top five boys representing each of their districts. Nor does it belong to the untiring staff which produced it. It is your book. This book could not have been put together by any one person or even a staff. It has been made by the contribution of every member of the faculty and every student in the Prague School. A fifty year heritage is our example. The next fifty years are ours to make and present a challenge. The very newness of Oklahoma, which places her nearer, in point of time, to pioneer society than any other part of our nation, has aided in keeping alive the glories of her past. The seniors of 1957 are proud to pay tribute to a great her- itage as our last contribution to dear old P.H.S. Seniors of '57 O D , , . .
