School Life In years past, the annual has been only who kids are, not what kids want, like, or need. This year, since we're running with PHS, we decided to tell you what the Panthers need, class-wise. This whole section is all about classes we take, enjoy, or dread. School life plays a big part in our Pan ther lives, and taking the right class may help decide what happens after graduation. We ha ve new clas- ses, required classes, and optional classes all in our school system. Go onward, read and . . . Run PHS! At right- Relaxation time in the gym over noon break to catch up on all the latest news. Above- Mr. Brabec enjoys running the fun with his jr. High class. Below- Scott Polacek models his new designer dressing while working with acids. A a Q Z A H v V1 A h Running the Fun Mr. Brabec's class is taken because of requirements and because of fun. We asked what the most exciting thing was about taking a class with Mr. Brabec. Little did we know that the Art room would be bombarded with answers!! 'Everything dies!! Connie Kratky exclaim- ed. Scott Polacek jumped in with, Gary and he had a bet if a plant would survive the year, and it seems to be looking weaker already! So we took in to consideration that Mr. Brabec is . . . shall we say . . . exciting in his high school classes. But maybe he tones down for jr. High. Wrong! jeff Sousek told us about the time Mr. Bra- bec stood on a desk to prove a point. What point we asked. jenny Vanek laughed, 'He jumped off the desk to act like he was flying! But it's not just goofing off in Mr. Brabec's class. Many students said that they learned fun and exciting things. Marie McCullick discovered not to play with acids. Kim Smith learned about the body in Physiology. Doug Havlovic participat- ed in dissecting frogs !funPj. And Joni johnson learned the most important thing. 'Y don 't like to take notes!! Mr. Brabec is also the Guidance Counselor for PHS. When asked how he feels about this, Mr. Bra- bec replied, 'T enjoy trying to help students with their problems. It gives a more personal side. The students agree that this is a good idea and everyone seems to agree that Science class has it's moments of Running with the Fun. School Life i' Ln.,

What P.H.S. Students do on the Weekends There are an unlimited number of things. Students can be found at their friend's house most of the time. They practically live there. As you can see in the picture below of Brenda B. and Tracy Vanek at Tracy's home. Some kids do have to work on weekends. Many work on farms as seen below, Scott Polacek and Chris johnson working with corn. No matter how cold it is outside, weekends can be enjoyed at a Prague game. Kids do have a tendency to visit other schools' games even though it might sound like a good excuse to a parent. Swimming, roller skating, bowling, and hunting are a few things that students enjoy. Swimming is Marie McCullick, Connie Stava, and Scott Polacek having a splash of a time in the pool at Peru State College. It just goes to showyou the students atP.H.S. knowhow to have fun on weekends! Q Favorites at P.H.S. ENGLISH English-the required class everyone must take. The word brings terror to some, no feelings to others, and joy to a few. Some kids love and some kids hate the class but not the teacher, Mrs. Linda Foxworthy. The vote is practically unanimous that Mrs. Fox- worthy tries to make grammar and literature fun. 'T like teaching English because for one thing its a re- quired class so I get to see every student. 'T ggl T When asked how she feels when students com- ' Nxem plain about having to take English or Literature, she said, It depends what kind of mood I 'm in, 1 a 'fyou-should-be-gra teful or tough-life's-not-easy-for-you mood. It's a challenge because not only Working' for 8 Change m students who are good at it are in here. As for the student's view, Tim Hennessey summed it up with the reply to this question: Why do you like the teacher or the class? She is a good teacher so I like the class and I get to finish a lot of the other work from other classes. Although many students agree its difficult, most say they are learning for the future. English class! HOME ECONGMICS You'Ve run a long way baby! Home Ec. class has really changed in the past years. A class that used to be learning to cook and basic sewing skills has turned into much more. Home Economics is required for female students in 7th , grade through 9th grade. After these three years it becomes op- ', Rx tional. 'G In the 7th grade class, the girls learn mainly about basic food and nutrition. They also scan over grooming and basic clothing skills. The one and only 8th grade girl this year, jenny Vanek, says she gets a semester of Basic Clothing. 'Being alone, it gets really boring. It's easier though because I get more help. The 9th grade have a comprehensive class. They learn mainly about housing, dating, and clothing. The 10th grade, during lst semester, learn about Food and Nutrition, and in the 2nd semester they learn more about cloth- ing. The juniors have a fun year with Housing lst semester, and Child Development in second semester. The Seniors are able to take two Home Ec. classes. Home Ec. IV is Advanced Clothing Textiles and Advanced Nutrition and Food. The other class is Adult Living which Seniors girls or boys can take. In Adult Living the Seniors spend one semes- ter on Consumer Education and one on Parenting Education. As you can tell, the Home Ec. Department keeps Mrs. Joyce Paseka very busy. uv-1 S EHgliShfH0mG ECOHOHUCS Picture on the top left: Chris and Cory really enjoy domestic chores. Bottom: Brian, I think you need to shave!
