Their season started with a win over Cedar Bluffs which began their on and off year. The Pantherettes first loss came from C-l East Butler before Christmas. Another defeat to Silver Creek left the Lady Panthers with 3rd place at the Holiday Tournament hosted by Petersburg, The next two losses were against class C-1 Malcolm and Class C-2 Waterloo, Team effort! And a lot of hustle and determination was our key! , said Coach Tom Luxford. The Lady Panthers finished their season with a 7-game Winning streak before losing to arch-rival Snyder in sub-district finals at Cedar Bluffs. Boys Basketball Bouncing Their Way to State The 1986-87 Boys Basketball team bounced their way through many things, such as the loss of onejohnson, the adjustment to the new Chris john- son. The many games we won, and the few we lost. Winning Sub-Districts and then bouncing through Districts and finally bouncing their way to State!! The season started off with a heartbreaking loss to Cedar Bluffs, then to Bradshaw. The Boys bounced back to beat both Rising City and East But- ler. After a loss to Silver Creek, the Boys had a five- win streak until they meet up with Omaha Brownell Talbot and Snyder. The Boys then had five consecu- tive wins, until meeting Amherst. It was a very satisfying season in the fact that no one had expected us to make the State Tourna- ment after starting with a 2-3 record in December, Coach Kevin Behne told us. Coach Behne was also very pleased with a 63.4 average for offensive rebounds and a 51 defensive re- bound average. Coach also was very pleased with the defeat of McCool junction, ranked 3rd, during the regular season. N Senior guard Roger Kubik summed the season-QV, up when he told us, It was a good season, but things 3. could have been better with more effort and hardery practices from the players.
