The Senior Class Presents: 1982 PAUQUETTE Volume XXXVIII Poynette High School Poynette, Wisconsin Him Teacher, Coach, and Referee. Through our years at PUS you have helped us learn how to study and how1 to compete. Your interest and devo- tion in helping us learn has really shone through. Many times you heard groans about our term papers, and complaints about an Econ. or U.S. quiz, but it is that paper and those quizzes that may be the most helpful to us in the future: and they let us know what a good feeling hard work can bring. These are the reasons we dedicate our annual to you, Mr. Ten- pas. Thanks! MR. You have contributed greatly to Poynette High School as you received your education. Best wishes for the future!! 7 )Iaj , M. Noble Superintendent HOLDING DOWN THE FORT To The Class of ’82: The Poynette High School Class of 1982 has accom- plished a great deal as a class. The comfort and safety that comes from being part of a class has helped many of you through some difficult times the past four years. The chal- lenge for you now is to accomplish much as an individual and to do it without the comfort and reassurance of your classmates. This is no easy task and some of you will find it more difficult than others, but it is hoped that the four years spent at P.H.S. have given you the knowledge, ex- perience, courage and strength to lead a happy and suc- cessful life. My sincerest best wishes to the Class of ’82 and to each and everyone of the unique individuals that comprise it. A J Gene Hamele Principal 8 Back Row: Stewart Nehls, Pete Disher Student Rep.. Bonjour, If I am writing this letter it s because I want to say to everyone whom I have shared something, what 1 feel and what I think about my AFS experience and my stay in the community of Poynettc. First 1 want to thank you all (and thank you it’s certainly not a strong enough word) for what you have gave me during the time I spent with you, and I sincerely hope that you have receive and get from me also something. When I am looking back to the six months I all ready spent here I want to say many things. First I have found some people, friends, family but also teachers who care and had shown me their caring, and I am very happy for it. When I left my native community, all my friends and my family I didn't know what to expect from the AFS experience, and I certainly did not know what it would look like. Now that I am just at the middle of this experience I can feel its importance ... What i learnt, what I received from it, because of all of you, it will be something that I will always remember, simply because it’s something that had changed the person I am, and because what I get from it is so important that when I will be back home it will always stay. This year is not a easy year, and this six months have not been always easy, but I can tell that they are very important for me. I am French because of my citizenship because I had been living in France since my birth, but because I had shared during this year the American life of Poynette, I am now more than that. I feel to belong also to the United States by all the things I get during these months. I get a lot from this experience, and it will not end the day I will return. It will always be in my heart and in my mem- ory. I hope only one thing ... that Everyone who had given me something from his or her person had received the same thing from me. Today I am looking for tomorrow, because 1 know that tomorrow will be always better than yesterday ... I know that these seven months that I have still to spend with you will be better than yesterday. I want to tell you a last thing: I care for you because I have shared something with you that will always be something very important ... Thanks A Lot For Everything Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow Don’t stop — it’ll soon be here it’ll be better than before yesterday's gone Fleetwood Mac (Rumours) 35 Hi! It all started on Tuesday with hat and shades day. Wednesday was crazy day, Thursday was Red and White day, and on Friday we all showed our true school spirit by wearing orange and black. Thursday night the parade was led by Grand Marshall Gramp Haight, and the pep rally followed. Then everyone went to the track to sec Fireworks and the bonfire. Friday night’s game was successful with Poynette beating Fall River43-30. The Home- coming dance was a big success, with music by THE TAKE and great decorations by the Pep Club. Members of the 1981 Homecoming Court were: King and Queen Todd Cibulka and Lisa Stiengraeber; Prince and Princess Kirk Sopha and Tracy Elsing; Senior Reps. Karl Knuteson and Rhoda Woodward; Junior Reps. Jim Woodward and Lori Hoyheim; Sophomore Reps. Phil Lytle and Kim McWilliams; and Freshmen Reps. For seven days, the hall became the mythical state of Badger and our home. When we arrived, we each were assigned to a city, a county, a political party and an activity. Marilee lived in the city of Pinegrove in the coun- ty of Wilder and was in the choir; Karen lived in Maple City in the county of Hoard and was in the pep band. Karen was also crowned Poppy Queen of Maple City during the Poppy Day celebration, because it was her birthday. The poppy is the state flower of Badger. We had a busy schedule during our week in Madison. Our time was spent gaining practical experience in government by forming political parties, electing officials, holding hearings on bills, and passing laws. We were directly involved in our county governments by Marilee being elected a county supervisor, and Karen a county treasurer. We will always remember our days as Badger Girls. Karen as Poppy Queen. 50 Marilee in action. Karen’s birthday card from Marilee. BADGER BOYS’ STATE Pete Disherand Steve Hebei were Poy- nette High School’s representatives at the 1981 Badger State. Steve and Pete partic- ipated in many activities. They included recreational events and a mock-govern- ment elections. The week-long visit was highlighted by a speech from Wendcl Wilke, State Commander of the Ameri- can Legion (shown below). Governor Lee S. Drcyfuss was also present. 1981 51 Chorus 1982 Fifth Row: R Saager. T. Smith. D. Stcnccl, R Reuter. D. Bublitz. D. Benway. E. Thurston. L. Gates. S. Hazard. K. Knuteson. P. Schocncbcrg. The group’s prime responsibility was organizing the Homecoming dance, the Powderpuff football game, and other Homecoming activities. ‘The Take’ played for the dance. The Student Council also had a conces- sion stand at every home basketball game; and sponsored a specatator bus to the foot- ball playoff game at Antigo. A scholor- ship was presented at the end of the year to a deserving senior. Due to a nearly unanimous decision early in the second se- mester, the Student Council chose to amend its constitution. This amendment dictated that Homeroom Representatives would not be re-elected (or re- placed) pending former legisla- tion; rather, they would be elected at the beginning of the year and stay on throughout the remainder of the term. They also initiated what could become an annual event; In early March, the Council sponsored a festival of games, consisting of tournaments in Softball, Volleyball, and Ten- nis. These events were carried on for an entire week at a spe- cial time allotment between the lunch hours. This broke up what was formerly a long tedi- um of late-winter classroom blues. 59 AN OVERPRAISED SEASON An Overpraised Season is a story dealing with some of the problems facing today’s youths. Each year the play has been done extreme- ly well and we hope it will be the same this year. Mr. Dann taught members how to roll film, use the cameras, and develop and print pictures. Most of the rest of the year was spent taking pictures for the yearbook. There were three senior members this year, including AFS Student Etienne LaComme. Next year should produce a very experienced Photo Club if most of our underclassmen return. 75 WE DO IT ALL Wc would like to thank everyone who worked on the annual. Each of you know all the hours that went into producing this book. There are several people wc would especially like to thank. First, a big “thank you to Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Balcstreri for the endless hours they spent at school with us. We would also like to thank Kim Dorhorst for her many hours of taking and developing pictures, and to Mrs. Whalen for her many pictures. Last, but definitely not least, we'd like to thank Corinnc Ritt- meyer for wearing her fingers to the bone at the typewriter. (Yes, she typed the entire book!) Again, thanks to each of you. The conference meet brought four conference medals for the teams. Cindy To- milson placed second and Jenny Garske placed seventh for the girls' team.
