to Mrs. Hilgendorf We, the Senior Class of 1969, are proud to dedicate PAUQUETTE, 1969 to you, Mrs. Hilgendorf. You have given so much to us in our four years in so many ways. Many precious hours of your time have been spent ac- quiringnew books to expand the range of materials of the present facilities. Upon receiving books, you and your staff began the long task of preparing them for the shelves. Be- sides preparing new books, tattered and torn books had to be repaired or discarded. Not only have you kept up the books, but you have maintained a vertical file of current events, ordered maga- zines and newspapers and provided a central location for college catalogues so that the students could easily find and use them. Because of your deep concern for a student’s literary background, you took the time to provide an ex- cellent bookstore. You also gave of your own free time by opening the library on Tuesday night for the benefit of the students. Besides using your librarian knowledge for the good of the student body, you also used it for other worthwhile purposes. Each fall you have had a book fair, where new books were introduced to the public encouraging their reading habits. Many students have sought your aid while working on such things as term papers or speeches. You were always willing to sort through numerous magazines and books in search of any information that might help them. Not only did you assist a student while he was in the library, but often after he proceeded on to another class one could still find you searching for useful resources. Whenever a student wished to order additional materials from outside sources, you were always ready to help him. Perhaps your greatest contribution in using your know- ledge has been to those students who have worked as stu- dent librarians. They have learned about the behind the scenes work of a library and have attained a high degree of appreciation for the work that goes into maintaining a good library. You organized them, and they joined the Student Librarian Association of Wisconsin which provided them with several opportunities to delve into library science. In recent years you have acquired an additional job, that of audio-visual director. You have built up a stock of records and filmstrips in a variety of areas including social science, math, science, English, and music. You have taken courses and attended meetings to gather more information on how to best carry out this duty. Besides your official obligations, you have provided the students with another service. You have always had a will- ing ear. You would discuss a problem with a student and he would often leave with a new perspective and probably an idea of a solution. For all of these helps, we most heartily thank you. And in token of our appreciation, we proudly dedicate this annual to you. 5
