K' LOYALTY nette school. Press onward with might Poy - nette school. As time sure - ly length- ens our loy - al - ty strength - ens, we're loy - al to you Poy - nette school. To Mr. Wilfred Gorsuch, faithful bus driver and friend of P.H.S. for fourteen years, we express our appreciation. Many times you have been patient with our remarks and childish tricks because of your innate goodness and understanding. Although many of us have never been able to show our feel- ing, we hope this appreciation will help to express our deep regard. We, the Senior Class, dedicate this 1960 Pauquette to Mr. Elgie L. Noble, whose patience and understanding as teacher, advisor, and coach have contributed greatly to the success and happiness of the class of 1960 during high school years. DOUG BIRKETT Henry Morgan HONOR SOCIETY FIRST ROW: J. Qualle, N. Knuteson, D. Kuhlman, J. Lothe. SECOND ROW: S. Noltemeyer, S. Vinge, T. Schoenick, S. Stiemke, D. Birkett, M. Manke. ABSENT: J. Dobratz. CLASS HISTORY On September 2, 1956,' forty-three students were enrolled in our Freshman Class. They were: As we entered P.H.S. we met Mr. Blanchard, our principal. Later we were in- troduced to Miss Thomas and Mr. Ford who were our class advisors. Officers elected to guide us through our first year of high school were: Darrell Monson, President; Gary Hahn, Vice-President; Jean Lothe, Secretary; and Donna McCormick, Treasurer. The first week of school was Initiation. We had to put up with a great deal of teasing from all the upper classmen. On Thursday night we had a party to celebrate our status as full-fledged Freshmen. Homecoming was a big event that year, especially for the Freshmen. Our attendants were Gary Hahn and Pat McIntosh who represented the class on the Vourt of Honor. In the spring of 1957, the big social event of the year was sponsored by the Juniors, the Junior Prom. Darrell Monson and Sharon Noltemeyer represented the Freshmen this time. There were compensations for those who maintained a high scholastic average. As evidence, eighteen of the members of our class were voted into membership of the Junior Honor Society. For our class trip, we journeyed to Devil’s Lake State Park. Sore muscles, from climbing, were the rewards, but it was well worth the effort. On September 4, 1957, our path again led us to Poynette High School. We met our good friend, Mr. Blanchard, who was to serve as principal again. Our new class advisors were: Mrs. Kuhlman and Mr. Patton. The politicians soon got busy and elections were held. Officers who were elected to guide our Sophomore Class were: Ernie Hohlstein, President; Gary Elsing, Vice- President; Joan Dobratz, Secretary; and Gary Hahn, Treasurer. Some members of our class had found other places more alluring and so did not rejoin us. They were Richard Walker, Pat Millard, Mona Kruse, Pat McIntosh, Jean Hughbanks, and Jackie Jerred. However, we has three new additions, Kathy Paske, Bill Haupt, and Douglas Birkett. Important events that made the headlines that year were: (1) “Ernie Hohlstein and Nancy Pulsfus Homecoming Attendants,” (2) “Terry Schoenick and Margo Schutz Senior Dance Attendants,” and (3) “Ernie Hohlstein and Judy Johnson Junior Prom Attendants.” The Thespians of our class presented a one-act play, entitled, “A Date with Bobby- Sox.” In April the big day arrived, the day for ordering our class rings. Unfortunately, our membership in the Honor Society decreased to sixteen for the year. Kathy Paske, Anna Urfer, and Joyce Greenfield did not return for the Junior year of High School, but Robin Chamberlin and Suzie Dey joined us. And now our enrollement was thirty-eight. Mr. Patton was the new principal, and Mr. Blanchard was the administrator. Our class advisor this year was Mr. Dann. Class officers were: Sharon Steimke, President; Donna McCormick, Vice-President; Nancie Knuteson, Secretary; and Pat Delfosse, Treasurer. Gary Elsing and Nancy Pulsfus were selected for our Homecoming attendants. Gary Hahn and Judy Johnson represented us for the Senior Dance. The theme of the Junior Prom was “Apple Blossom Time.” Paul Schultz and Joan Dobratz reigned as King and Queen. Junior Class officers and their dates served as the Court of Honor plus the President of each class. “Time Out For Ginger” was the name of our Junior Class Play. Again the enrollment in Honor Society decreased, leaving only thirteen members. Once more we went to Devil’s Lake for our class trip. On September 2, 1959 we began our final year of high school. Marlene Eidsor and Pat Millard joined us, but left after six weeks. Pat Delfosse was married during the summer so did not return for her Senior year. Bert Thiessen also left us after twelve weeks of school, so now we have thirty-eight in the Senior Class. Our class advisor this year was Mr. Noble. Class officers were: Jean Lothe, President; Doug Birkett, Vice-President; Robin Chamberlin, Secretary; and Nancy Pulsfus, Treasurer. “Indian Summer” was the Homecoming theme. Gary Elsing and Nancy Ptilsfus reigned as King and Queen. Our class attendants were Gary Hahn and Judy Johnson. Our Senior Dance theme was “Frostland Fantasy.” Our King and Queen were Doug Birkett and Sharon Steimke. Bill Haupt and Janice Amidon were the class representa- tives. Our final enrollment in the Honor Society was eleven members. The first week in May we presented our Senior Class Play. Sunday, May 22, was Baccalaureate, and May 24 was Class Night. This brought us that much closer to graduation. On May 27, 1960, we walked up the aisle in our blue robes to receive our diplomas. Some were glad and some were sad. Stan Vinge - Whatever the subject, whatever the game, his intelligence and courage are always the same. PROPHECY Last week a former classmate of mine brought his newest invention to my office. It was a television which would take you to any person or place that you wanted to visit, just by turning a handle. The inventor was BILL MIELKE and he seemed very pleased with it, as he should be. Having fond memories of our High School, we dialed the knob and the school came into view. Two new additions have been built and put to use. As we are taken through the halls, we see many alumni who have returned to teach at their school. DIANE KUHLMAN is now the head of the English Department and SHARON NOLTE- MEYER is dominating the Gym classes, while JEAN LOTHE has taken over the Music Department and JUDY QUALLE is the Home Economics teacher. A football game is on the schedule for tonight. Let’s venture down to see how the team is doing. GARY HAHN has taken up coaching. It seems the school board took advantage of his abilities and hired him as soon as he graduated from Platteville. JUDY JOHNSON sits on the sidelines. She, also, has a coaching job with her five children. Next, we dial the initials J. S. and we see JANET SINGLETON performing her last act of the day. She has become quite a skating star since she was discovered by TERRY SCHOENICK, a talent scout for the Ice Follies. He always was on the lookout for something new and exciting. It seems DOUGLAS BIRKETT is out of contact to most people these days. He has gone to shoot lions in Africa. Deer hunting must have become too dull a sport for him. A few thousand miles away is STAN VINGE debating with Kruschev II. Since he has become the Ambassador to Russia, many new transactions .have been brought about. PAUL SCHULTZ is known for his many wonderful inventions. We see him now in Hawaii. He has brought his whole staff along to work on a device to make grass skirts out of plastic so that the beatniks on the island won’t have to make new ones every year. His secretary, JOAN DOBRATZ, is writing a letter to one of his customers about his invention. ANNA MC GOWAN seems quite interested in buying some of them for her whole beat” crowd. Turning the set westward, we see movieland. DAVID HANSON is finishing his latest role. This time he is playing Goliath in Samson and Goliath.” ERNIE HOHLSTEIN, also a famous actor of the day, is just starting another film, entitled Life Under Hitler.” It should be a fine movie as GEORGE TOMCZAK is doing the directing. Other alumni who have turned their interests to the arts are DUANE PACHE and BOB KOEHLER. Duane has just completed his latest record album, Come to Me, Baby,” and Bob is just starting his new one. One of the most important car races in the world is now taking place in Minn- eapolis. As we tune it in, the Master of Ceremonies is just announcing the winner. Well, what do you know? It’s BILL HAUPT! He always was interested in cars. Another important announcement has just been made. Blue Lightning has just won the Kentucky Derby, ridden by MARVIN HEINTZ. I always thought he was partial to donkeys! What’s this? The dial is pointing to Alaska. It seems that GARY ELSING and DON ANDERSON have struck it rich. The recent gold rush has opened many op- portunities. To be sure, BERNARD WELLS is right on hand, seeing to it that everything is in order. Dialing Montana, we see SUZI DEY, happy as can be. She has finally gotten her wish. Living on a ranch, she is now raising both cowboys and horses. Also favoring the western way of life, we see JIM DOHERTY. He is patiently-waiting for his broken leg to heal. The rodeo must have gotten the best of him. In homemaking a new name has appeared. It seems that MARIE MANKE has replaced Betty Crocker as the ideal homemaker. It must have been her ex- cellent baking abilities that did it. Next we dialed R.C. for ROBIN CHAMBERLIN who is now living in Norfolk, Virginia. She is running a nursery school for colored children. PROPHECY CON’T There always has been an important navy base here, shall we take a look? A large navy ship is just landing. On the deck we see two more former classmates, ALFRED NELSON and GEORGE PLENTY. They must have left the plow for a more exciting life in the Navy. The dock is lined with people and peering down, we see DONNA MC CORMICK with a child running about her and next to her is NANCIE KNUTESON. They must be waiting for their Navy men. Just beyond the horizon is a new ocean cruiser, a “dreamliner” for tourists. They say it has five swimming pools aboard which are completely run by girls. As we are taken aboard, we see the first one. Who is that that is the Life Guard? Why, it’s PAT WILSON. Working in a children’s hospital must have been too dull a life for her. Below deck is the cooking galley. SHARON STEIMKE is the head chef. No wonder all the people complain about the food. Also working on the ship is SHIRLEY HERWIG, who has become the assistant beautician. JUDY MANTHE keeps the evenings lively when she makes her debut singing. She really draws a good crowd. EVELYN WOODWARD also has a part in the show as conductor of the orchestra. NANCY PULSFUS seems to have her share of trouble, too, as the guid- ance director for children who are sent there by their mothers. The big problem is that she hasn’t the heart to hurt them. The Seniors of 1960 have all turned out quite well. As the picture fades away I feel proud to have known such a wonderful group. BABY Gary E. Janet S. Donna Me. Gary H. Pat W. Nancie K. Doug B.
