The following pupils answered roll call: Dorothy Bartholomew Gilbert Barton Feme Bauer Bud Blsbee Evelyn Colstad Stephen Deerwester Merwyn Hamilton Leiand Harris Merritt Hlgley Donald Hohlstein Doris Hutchinson Herbert Inselman Marvin Jellings Louie Lanzendorf Edna Leistikow Helen Lintner Junior Marsh Hiyllis Me Mahon Beverly Me Mi11an Dale MieIke Iva Moungey Joan Mountford Beverly Puttkaramer Peter Rinzel Sally Rose Phyllis Ross Elizabeth Schmidt Charles Schultz Jennette Simonson Herbert Steffenhagen Victor Tomlinson Genevieve Wolff Our principal was Mr. Eldon Amundson. Class advisors: Miss Beroadine Peterson and Mr. Ford Thurston Class officers: President: Donald Hohlstein; Vice President: Herbert Inselman; Secretary: Feme Bauer; Treasurer: Joan Mountford. During our first year of school, Donald Hohlstein transferred to Rio High School. Iva Moungey also transferred which reduced our ranks to 30 members. At the end of our freshman year Mr. Norbert Brunner took us on an extensive tour through our state capital and also through interesting parts of Madison. September 6, 191 9 found us starting our Sophomore year at Poynette School. A new principal, Mr. Harry Polzer, Joined us. Class Advisors: Mr. Roger Trost and Mrs. and Mr. Roger Arnold Class Leaders: President: Marvin Jellings; Vice President: Byron Hazard; Secretary: Grace Derge; Treasurer: Charles Schultz. During this, our second year, we added four members to our class--Grace Derge from Lodi, Byron Hazard from Minneapolis, Duane Guitzkow from Madison East and Robert Sehoeneberg from De Forest. Helen Lintner decided to trans- fer to Madison and this left us with 33 students at the end of the year. Since the class had some excess money in its treasury, the group decided to take a trip to Devil's Lake for a day, and everyone had a most enjoyable time. After two successful years we resumed our studies in our third year with high hopes of attaining our goal. Mr. Harry Polzer was our principal. Class advisors: Mrs. Helen Lake and Mr. Milton Rewey Our class officers were: President: Doris Hutchinson; Vice President: Grace Derge; Secretary: Joan Mountford; Treasurer: Evelyn Colstad. During our third year we lost two of our members, Beverly Puttkammer and Phyllis McMahon Both decided school wasn't cut out for them and left for brighter vocations. Class History, cont'd Since this wes our third year, we were studying plans for the many events scheduled. On February 19, 1951 we presented our class play en- titled Along Came Kllroy directed by Mr. Roger Trost. The play was a huge success and afterward the cast and Mr. Trost went to the Log Cabin In Lodi for refreshments. Then on Friday, April 13, came the big moment we all had been waiting for—the Junior Prom. Herbert Steffenhagen and Doris Hutchinson were King and Queen. We chose as our theme Candy Lane . The summer passed rapidly and the day we had waited for so long finally came. We stepped through the doors of Poynette High School Seniors ! We vowed we would work hard to make this our best year. Mr. Polzer was still at the helm guidine us in the direction of suc- cess, with Miss Helen Thomas as co-advisor. Class officers—President: Herbert Inselman; Vice President: Robert Schoeneberg; Secretary: Sally Rose; Treasurer: Dorothy Bartholomew. The first big activity was our football homecoming. We worked hard to make the bonfire and dance events long-to-be-remembered. Next came our senior class play, The Ghost House directed by Mr. Roger Trost. After the play the cast and Mr. Trost again visited the Log Cabin at Lodi. This our last year found some new faces in the class. Garland Bays Joined us from Oklahoma, and Ben Johnson csme from Gilman, Wisconsin. Things were looking up as we were quickly approaching the end of our last year. It looked as though we would make It after all! Ben Johnson decided that the Air Force needed him more urgently than school so he quit, and Duane Gultzkow also dropped out. The last big event of the year sponsored by our class was the Senior Ball. It was held February 23 and we looked on it as the last time we seniors would sponsor a dance or any social activity in Poynette Iiitrh School. c Then before we knew It, the final day was here. On May 27, 1952, we received our diplomas and left Poynette High School for the last time. As we stop to think back over our four years, we remember all the Joys and sorrows we have experienced here, the meny advantages which have been ours, the help so freely given by parents and teachers to help us attain our coveted goal. Out in the world may we prove true. hC 6 r, C0 V A nituit t yttv'. CLASS EPITAPH Here lie the good Seniors whose genius was such We scarcely can blame it or praise it too much; Who, born for distinction, perfected their mind And, fraught with all learning, gave joy to mankind. They were equal to all things, for nothing unfit. They were pleased with their culture and proud of their wit. They are missed by their classmates, their teachers as well. Who their virtues and wisdom now tearfully tell. They died of brain fever, brought on by delight. In their fourth year of age on commencement night. They are glsd to be gone to a new world, alackl If we couid when we pleased, we'd not whistle them back. But let us be candid and speak out our mind. Their equal as students 'twill be hard to find. And in peace may they lie, our good Seniors, who now Have taken their finals and made their last bow.  ye old non . Hi II -i op CcU D. Bartholomew; L. Harris; D. Mlelke; B. Blabee, Ed.; D. Puttkammer, G. Radewan CLASS PROPHECY The year is I960 and we are on our way to the Class of 1955 reunion. Merwin Bauer, who is now principal of PHS, brings us up to date on the news. Seems as though Wilberta Greenfield (now Larson) and Dean are busy on the construction of their own bungalow. Coming down the hall is the new English teacher, Audrey Hlgley. We hear Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Waugh (nee Anita Bender) have a'beautiful fans in the country. Unfortunately Robert Vogts will not be here as ho is at law school with presidential aims in mindT Incidentally, a new contender for the Junior light-heavyweight title is Earl Bilkey. Good luck, Earl. Mr. Bauer tells us that Ray Redell, Donovan Eichorst, Billy MacLeish and Marvin Puttkammer are playing basketball for the University of Wisconsin. The city Horary is now quite a popular place since Karen Grinds took over as librarian. It seems Gordon Radewan has been doing more reading than usual. Walter Lindner, the new milk truck driver, often.finds his way to undlach1s Coffee shop, Mary Gundlaeh, prop. Donna v-olff end J en Schutz are now raising prize beef cattle on their Swn ranch. Donna Eichorst and Carol Lindemann are teaching school at Madison East. aul 5haw and Lois baerwolf (SEaw) are snuggly settled in their own house trailer. They tell us Agnes and Dawn Teeter have their own television show called Teeter Televison Time. Paul Black is script writer and James Wolters chief technician. Shirley McEarlane (now Hebei) and Harlan run their own duplex garage. Kenlyn Stewart and Margaret Risgaard are in the Women1s Branch of the Air Porce. Both are engaged to Air Force men, too. Marvin Hebei, Dick Smith, Dale Holzman and Don Tomczak are in the Navy. They tell us those ' )eves really get rough. Incidentally Merle Jungeman and Shirley Nelson are in the Waves. We hear, too, that Inez Anderson and Delores Schrab are both happily married, Jim Tessman Is running a Bureau for the Lovelorn. And last but not least we hear about Charles Judd who is agent for that up-and-coming young movie star, Sandra Wlld. CLASS OFFICERS K. Grinde, Secretary E. Bilkey, Vice-President D.
