The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name ' s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The Twenty-third Psalm 2 We the senior class of P.H.S. dedicate our annual, THE 1962 BIG CHIEF, to our friend and advisor Mrs. Margaret Franklin. We thank you for the guidance and coun¬ sel you have given us throughout our most memorable senior year. You have given us in your classes not only a mastery of the English language but also an outlook which will help us throughout our lives. You have taught us to be honest and courageous -- and to be thorough in all we do. 3 Mr. J. S. Caldwell, Jr., superintendent, and Mrs. Caldwell, secretary. There was much nervous apprehension over trivial matters-- black flats had been left at home, just- washed hair would not behave, ties would not stay straight, and a cold was accused of being tears. Yet, another feeling over powered this nervousness in many of the class members. It was one of sadness brought on by reluctance to leave behind their memories-- memories of football games, proms, the senior play, the New York trip, class parties, favorite teachers, classes, and friends. This was graduation night. EXERCISES Emma Akens, Valedictorian I i GRADUATION FRIDAY, JUNE 8, 1962 8:00 P. M. .Elgar Glee Club: The Green Cathedral . Mr. J. S. Caldwell Rev. The Indians began the 1961 season by hold¬ ing each of their first three opponents scoreless and averaging 28 points a game. However, this winning streak was broken -- several of the mighty warriors were wounded, causing the tribe to settle for a tie and four defeats before getting their fourth taste of victory. The Indians ended their season in a battle with Cumberland deadlocked at 0-0. Four Indians were named to the All-District team: Winky Emerson, David Payne, Jimmy Riddle, and Billy Richter. The team had only nine players of whom two were experienced: Liston Rudd and Chuck Boggs. Yet Liston was able to play but the first few games because of an illness. However, we are proud of the team--they never lost their spirit or their will to win and were faithful in their practice. There are hopes for a winning team for next year with the hard-working under¬ classmen who will be back. Chuck Boggs, a senior, made Honorable Mention All-District having scored an average of 14 points per game. VARSITY BASEBALL This has been a rough ball season; it seems we got started off on the wrong foot, losing the first game by one run and continuing to do so in many of the following games. We made many mistakes and at times it seemed as if we couldn’t get a break. We were weak in a few positions because of in¬ experience, lacked slugging power and clutch hitting. Many of the young boys showed promise and will become good ball players if they continue to play throughout the summer. We lose four players through graduation: Chuck Boggs, pitcher, infielder; Hunter Jones, catcher, infielder; Tom Lester, utility infielder; Winky Emerson, utility outfielder. It was very nice working with these boys and I wish them lot of luck in their future careers. One bright spot a coach has is looking toward his future teams, and ours look very bright with 10 letter men returning. John Guidon, Coach Mr. Guidon gives the seniors a few tips on batting. Another homer!! ! The idea is to use a ball. Well, nice stretch anyway. Here it comes -- whoops, there it goes!
