Football The fighting Indians of ' 59 led by seniors Jim Tomlinson, John Brauer and Doug Walker opened the season with a green unexperienced team which by hard work and drive became a formidable machine by the final game with Cumberland. The seasons record of four wins, five losses and a tie does not tell the story of the great improvement shown. We won three of our last four games and in the Orange game we gave the district champion Hornets some anxious moments. Walker was our leading player with 15 touchdowns, giving him a total of 245 points over the last three years. He was named all district fullback for the second year in a row. Jim Tomlinson and Johnny Brauer gave us good line play all year. A host of Juniors and Sophomores indicated that the Orange and Black will be bad news in the future. Backs Charles Johnson, Chuck Boggs, Wink Emerson and Berkeley Heath gave us top performance. In the line Joe Kacperski and Jimmy Riddle became tough operators at the terminals and big Jim Bland and Robin Lester handled their tackle posts capably. Dale Blan¬ kenship and Kent May gave us a fine brace of guards both offensively and defensively. We are all proud of the way this team worked to become a fine unit by the end of the season. Coaches plan strategy. 24
