Yearbook Staff This year the production of the yearbook has been changed from the Journalism to the Art Department. The staff has also been enlarged from two to five members. Emphasis has been placed on better and more ap- pealing lay-out construction and with the help of the photography class we have been able to include more selected candid shots. It is our intention that this will enable us to pre- sent a more natural book with students pictures as we remember them rather than artifically posed. - J Here's proof! Photography This year photography was offered as a class for the first time at Powers High School. With equipment ordered the students built their own work table, installed shelving, clock and safe light. Custodian Bob Fry connected the ne- cessary plumbing. The results, we hope, are many more candid shots of finer quality than were possible before. We can thank Tom Wiedeman, Bill Madewell, and Gary Dunn for the majority of these results. Lettermens Club The 1964 Football season started on August 20 with daily double practices up to the beginning of school. The team was in good physical shape for the season and league opener with McKenzie. The high spot of the season was a 19-13 victory over Canyonville in the Homecoming game. The 1964 Cruisers were led on defense by seniors Dan Hughes and Ray Sturman. They were led in offense by the passing of Quarter Back Tom Score Results Rauch, the catching of Half Back Marty Stallard, and the slashing running of Full Back Butch Hu- bert. The returning players look forward to the 1965 season with optimism as we will have 7 starters back with some capable reserves to fill the shoes of the departing seniors. The ”65” Cruisers will be led by 2 year Lettermen Tom Rauch and Rick Taylor as co-captains. Other highlights of the 1964 campaign were the election of Ray Sturman as “Most Valuable Defense” and being named as an alternate to the West Shrine Team; Marty Stallard as “Most Valuable Of- fense;” Doug Wyland as “Most Improved Player;” and Dan Hughes as “Most Valuable Player.” McKenzie . . Other school and district records were set by Junior Tom Rauch with a vault of 12 ZVa in the district meet, and a school record of 15.3 in the High Hurdles at the State meet where he placed 4th. Senior Ray Stur- man set a school record in the district meet of 132 in the discus. Another highlight of the season was the outstanding work of Sophomore Marty Stallard. Other good efforts throughout the season came by distance men Johnny Fry, Dale Hill, Henry Elder, Dan Evers, and Dale Hill.
