S f J.C-t 7 SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY As the electronic prediction machine propels me through time to the year 19824- the class of '59 comes into view. First I see DONNA ADAMEK as a prosperous Dental Technician who has just been selected as woman of the year by the National Dental Association. Next I see GARY SCRIVENS as a professional skindiver who salvaged a million dollars in gold from a ship unexpectedly sunk the week before. Then comes LINCOLN MAGILL, the owner of a profitable and famous home-construction company. His firm has just been given the job of building five thousand houses in Russia. Hurrying by next is DENNIS ANDERSON, owner of a large and prosperous space ship repair company on Mars, Next to come into view is LOENE ADAMSON. She is the efficient, reliable secretary for the governor of Hawaii. She has been secretary for every governor since Hawaii became a state. This person I don't recognize—oh, yes, it's BILL HUNT, the Chief of Police of Los Angeles'. His officers just eliminated all juvenile delinquency in the city. There goes ROSS MINTOYNE, the senator from Oregon and a dark horse in the presidential election. I see BILL WOJCIK as conductor of the New York Pilharmonic Orchestra, He has just received the Nobel Prize for music. Next to pass is BETTY JO CRABILL, the only woman jet airplane pilot in the world. She has flown 50,000 hours. Here is that wealthy and influential businessman, JERRY REEVES, who acts as presidential advisor on more efficient methods of garbage removal. Next is JOYCE ELLIS, president of a famous woman's college, whose graduates all become college presidents themselves. Last to come into view is MIKE STEWART, the crusading editor of the New York Times. His fearless reporting has just exposed a large scale gambling ring in that city. The CRUISER staff of 1958-59 consists of ten people, with Teresa Dittrich as ed- itor, The first months of the school year showed the annual staff hard at work getting the first fifteen pages off to the publisher. The members have their assigned tasks which they are expected to perform diligently. The financial standing of the annual was very poor at the first of the year, but the annual Variety Show held March 28th is ex- pected to boost the financial standing so that we may put out a much better annual than ever before. Newspaper Staff Left to Right; Jim Boutin, Teresa Dittrich, Ga -y Scrivens, Mr. Beam, Linda Bixler, Patsy Johnson, Mike Stewart, Jim --darnek, Del Dungey, Laurie Thorn, Ronnie Raddatz. Hi-Power is self supporting from the sale advertisements, and copies of each issue. In the absence of a local newspaper it serves both the school and community, in gathering and disseminating the news. The staff is competent and energetic, always seeking ways to improve the paper. The Oregon Scholastic Press has commend- ed the staff several times, especially with respect to the quality of their advertisements. Work on the paper provides experience and co-operation in working together, since diff- erent jobs are rotated among the staff members and each one assists where assistance is indicated. Before the game was over Waldport had 46 passes thrown to them which scored two T,D.s. It was only in the last minutes of the game that a Curiser fumble gave the Irish the winning margin. The Cruisers then traveled to Canyonville when they were again defeated by a score of 26-7, The Powers eleven drew first blood, but were unable to hold their lead. The next Friday found the Cruisers in Gold Beach facing the Panthers, Here Powers got on the winning side with a hard won victory of 13-0, The first T. D, came in the first half of play and the second in the second half of play by a 50 yard dash. The next Friday, October 10, the Cruisers defeated Lowell for their second win of the season by 26-0 win. The Cruisers then went to Mapleton and won a very close victory 14-13. The first T.D. of the game from the Mapleton Sailors, The Cruisers scored 14 points before the half. Then with six minutes of playing time left in the game the sailors scored 6 points and the game ended with a third win. The Cruisers . won their fourth straight victory over thp Days Creek Wolves with a victory of 33-9, We drew first blood of the game and never lost our lead. The Cruisers won their 5th straight in a row by an easy victory of 46-6 over the North Bend J,V,s. The Cruisers wound up their 1958 football season by losing the 4B title to the Yoncalla Eagles by a score of 6-0. The courageous Powers Cruisers held their own until there were only 1:35 minutes left in the game. The Eagles plunged over from the one foot mark to score 6 points. ■. Our season record of 17 wins and 3 losses is better than average especially considering the fact that 10 of the games were played against A-2 competition. One of the most satisfying games of the year was the 49-45 win over traditional rival Myrtle Point, after a previous 69-54 setback at the hands of the Bobcats, Another highlight of the season was the winning of the Sius- law Holiday tournament which was represented by Taft, Reedsport, Siuslaw and Powers, At the end of the season, Powers was defeated in the District Tournament which was represented by three teams from Douglas County and one from Coos County, Teams from Douglas County were Days Creek, Yoncalla, and Elkton, Powers was the Coos County representative. In the second game of the tournament, held at Reedsport, the Cruisers were edged by the Elks from Blkton 42-41 in a real thriller. This loss dropped them from championship play. It was the consensus of opinion of many of the observers that the Powers Cruisers were the best team in the tournament, but thats the way the breaks go in a tournament. In the final game of the tournament, held at Roseburg the second night. Powers romped over Days Creek easily, copping third place in District Play, This has been a season in which there were things to be proud of, as was mentioned, but the goal to be reached next year is, of course, the State Tournament, Coach Bushmell, the team members, and the yell squad wants to take this opportunity to thank the School Board, Adminis- tration and Faculty, students of Powers High School and all the townspeople for their wonderful support during the season and ask you to be with us next year when we go to state. ■, s 0 « ♦ i «• • • • 0 % 0 • • % • • 1‘ t I •, 4 « • • 4 • • • . « TRACK TEAM Back Row, Left to Right: Jerry Hall, John Peterson, Jim Boutin, Ainslie Krans, Mike Stewart, Larry Schneider, Terry Epperson, Glen McDonald, Richard Calbo, Mr. Dungey Front Row, Left to Right: Gary Scrivens, Robert McCray, Pat McMahon, Bill Utterback, Archie Flood, Darrel Fry, Mearl McDaniel, Tom Wadman, Del Dungey, Louis Lambert Left to Right: Pat McMahon, Mike Stewart, Larry Schneider, Del Dungey, Bill Utterback, Darrel Fry, Center: Gary Scrivens Jun i or Eighth Grade Seventh Grade Back Row, Left to Right: Waiter Lawson, Mark Shorb, Terry Dittrich, Victor Hill, John Ross, David Wood, Dan Taylor, Mr, Maxwell, 2nd Row, Left to Right: Florence Fry, Sharril Lucas, Carol Lopez, Linda Anderson Sharon Berns, Mary Adamson, Betty Jo McCardle, First Row, Left to Right: Verna James, Kay Burgess, Trudy Mayfield, Kay Sturman, John McCray, Marvin Sims, Back Row, Left to Right: Earl Reaves, Clyde Hanson, Lorretta Anderson, Greg Quilhaugh, William Lawson, Russel Hedges, Edith Kuskie, Robert Kalb, Mr. Bushnell, Middle Row, Left to Right: Sue Rauch, Billy Brotten, Mary Taylor, Sylvia Bern Rhona Clark, Doria Schrag, David Stutsman, Mike Sewell, Jim Pinson, Paula Mintonye, Barbara Herbert, Adrian Wiwatowski, Front Row, Left to Right: Maroia Bixler, Tom Gilkepson, Linda Hamm, Louis Larson, Marjorie Fry, Gary McMahon, Pet Hoffman, Richard Clark,  7 IE M WE CAN’T GO BACK A HUNDRED YEARS, AS OREGON THE GRADUATES CF FORMER YEARS. 1921 Hazel Caffin Charles Davis Claude Hull Lyle Stewart 1922 Marion Gant Thelma Hetherington Russel Varney Robert Wise Naomi Love Drace McDermott Kathryn Riley Florence Stewart 1927 Gilbert Miller Durward Rolfe George Varney Fenis Warner 1928 1923 Unknown 1924 Engene Ballard Mark Boome Grace Gamwell Florence Greenfield Zilda Hayes Dorothy Jackson Evelyn Jackson Virgil La Clair Alice McDuffie Luella Ross Roger Stewart John Wadman 1925 • Bernice Bones Harold Boone Phillip Coffin ZettaDo k Jfiff Frye Homer Robinson Burl Rutledge 1926 Lila Dement Theresa Dement Elwin Frye Laura Kild Ethel Bauer Beatrice Burlington Thelma Derr Lucille Hayes Marie Frye Willis Hubbard Mildred Jackson Mary Levine Keith Leonard Meryl McCready Fred Serafin Edna Walker 1929 Amilia Baeckel Joe La Clair Berye Dairs Margeret Frye Eleanor Greiner Mildred Payre Harry Rolfe Sophia Serafin Jewill Fanner Beth Thomas Howard Varney 1930 Edward Bonmie Frances Crawford Lester Powers Thomas Erickson Zenobia Knight CAN, BUT WB-LIST BELOW 1931 Wanda Brown Josephine Crawford Bernadine L.
