A few weeks later, con- tinuing to proceed in a democratic manner, the voters selected the present building site at a special election held for this pur- pose . Industrial Building Company of Eugene was awarded the contract on September 29, 1955 and construction was in progress within a few days. Exclusive of furnishings and equipment, the new build- ing was erected at a cost of $245,148.12. In August 1956, the building was accepted by the Powers School Board as essentially completed and our new high school was accupied for the first time at the begining of the fall semester in Sept- ember. Formal dedication ceremonies were held in the Gym-auditor- ium on October 30, 1956. Our high school building, of which we are rightfully proud, exists today as a result of both the years of planning and study- ing by interested people who desired better facilities and better educational opportunity for their children, and because individuals and groups of our community were willing to give so generously of time, substance and effort.
