IIELIGIUN Rellgron Relrgrous Motrfs Well Bob Thxs IS our new school We were standing at the threshold f Power Xlemorral Academy at the srxty first street entrance We paused for a moment then made our way through the door Glancmg to the left, we notrced a large CYUCIHX Becomrng more lnterested rn 1t, we took a closer look Accordmg to a small mscrrptron at the bottom, thrs beautxful rmage was presented to the school on February 2, 1944 Another turn of the head brought a beautrful set of stamed wmdows under our observatron We gazed admrrmgly at the colorful representatrons of the Brble wh1le the sun poured through them thereby addmg extra lustre A closer lnspectlon mformed us that they were a grft of the Mothers Club Then we walked up the stalrs to our new class room As we entered the classroom we rm adornment of rellglous plctures an altar for the Blessed Vlrgm, and of course, a small crucrfix We were sure now that we had entered a school m whrch we could study for our llves IH the secular world ln a truly rellglous atmosphere VS e querred Brother as to the orrgrn of these prctures and artrcles Brother turned and faced the front wall of the classroom He pomted to the left hand srde of the wall just above the blackboard where hung a plcture of the Sacred Heart Take a close look and notrce two l1ttle words ln the left corner X emte Omnes and m Latm Chrlst calls us to Hlm saymg Come all of you' Brother now turned to the rrght hand s1de of the wall to contlnue hrs explana tron There rs the patroness of our school Our Lady of Perpetual Help Her prcture was rntroduced to the world by the Redcmptorlst Order 1n Italy 'Now examrne the rest of the room -Xs we glanced around we recognrzed reproductlons of scenes from the llfe of Our Lord For mstance there was one showmg the Joyful smgrng of the Angels at Bethlehem on that first Christmas nrght Some others showed Chrlst teach mg from a fisherman s boat and Chrlst wrth the l1ttle chlldren Strll another de pxcts Chrlst s Cp1SOdC w1th the Rrch Xoung man We soon found that an mterestmg day ln class was now over But before we went home We decided that we would go up to the chapel We entered thrs Oratorro and ln the peaceful atmosphere knelt to pray Look mg around we found stalned glass w1n dows srmrlar to those we had seen down stafrs The hght flltered through them rn qulet subtle tones that made us feel re laxed and at peace We left school and headed for home leavmg strll unexplored the mnumerable msfgnae that 1dent1fy Our Academy as a school of the Roman Catholrc Church 7 Rellglon A Day At St Matthews Dont forget, today rs Tuesday, the day we go up to St Nlatts sa1d Dan Shanahan to john Lgan as they ap proached 606 for therr first perrod of the day I won t sand John 'Nleet me here at 2 15 and we can go up there to gether Okay, but remmd Frank Coo ney and jack Glbbons too, replred Dan They entered the classroom and pre pared for a long day of study Rmg g g the bell s1gnaled the end of the last perrod and the throngs of students flled from the1r classrooms rn an exclted chatter over the days hap penmgs All set asked John Egan, closrng hrs locker door?
