Senior Class Officers President . Gary Jones Vice-president . Phil Sturgill Secretary .... George A. Wampler Treasurer .Gary Sexton Sponsors .Miss Faith Cox Miss Callie Darnell Miss Lora Dingus Mrs. Grace Rose Jones Sturgill Wampler Sexton Class History Again history is repeating itself, and Powell Valley High School is graduating another Senior Class of young citizens. It is more gratifying to look fo the future where the stars and dreams are bright than it is to look back at what cannot be changed. We, the Senior Class of 1966, are proud of our history but eagerly, yet anxiously at times, await the future in anticipation of brighter and newer horizons. Each year the graduating class leaves a mark of distinction with the school. It may not be specifically named, but it is embedded in the tradition, memory, and soul of the school. No alumnus can return to his alma mater and honestly say there has been no change. The changes may not be in the physical plant, but there are changes that have been initiated, nursed, and realized by the students and the faculty. Changes that were once dreams become part of the routine—changes that cannot be named but are ever with us. Powell Valley has given to us. Could a value be placed on learning to live? Could a value be placed on knowledge? Could a value be placed on friends? We are indebted to Powell Valley, but we can never repay this debt. Each year Powell Valley goes through a carnival of events, designed for the students ' entertainment and education. We have experienced all of these—the thrill of the first day of school, the insecurity of being a sub-freshman, the fellowship of clubs, the heartbeat of the thrilling moments in sports, the pondering over a math problem, the band and Glee Club concerts, the weekly assembly programs, the English assignments that we can ' t wait to get, the Homecoming Dance and the Junior-Senior Prom, taking College Board Exams, and other events, too numerous to mention. We have loved it. We shall miss the security of high school. Responsi¬ bility is frightening, but we will accept the responsibility of being an adult more easily because of our preparation in high school. It is our hope that Powell Valley is a better place in which to live and learn because we have been there: this is all we can offer, for it ' s all we have. Each day a flag is raised in front of Powell Valley. This will never change. The love of freedom that our flag symbolizes is part of our very soul. We dearly love it and are ready to die for it. It is time for us to part and we say to you, Powell Valley, Goodby... 24
