senior class history David Wheatley Sherrie Binkley Twyla Herron Ernest Clements M iss Lora Dingus M iss Callie Darnell Mrs. Grace Rose M iss Faith Cox Clements. Binkley, Herron. Wheatley There we were — Seniors at last. It meant many different things to each of us. But to all of us it meant feeling that we were distinctly above the underclassmen, sitting on the first rows of the auditorium, having our long-awaited class rings, and nearing the end of the greatest security we would ever know. We all remembered when we first came to Powell Valley. We were skeptical: we were happy and laughing: we were scared! And more often than not, we were lost. We soon overcame our fright and relaxed. The prospect of attending ball games as full-fledged students was an exciting one. To the delight of the cheerleaders, we yelled ourselves hoarse, because It made us feel Important. Our freshman year rolled around. At last we were eligible to join some clubs. How thrilled we were! And we were proud because we weren ' t Pee-Dabs any more. The fall of 1962 marked the beginning of our sophomore year. We were right In the ml ddle, with many important things behind us, and yet so many more Important deci- sions facing us. Now we had to decide what we really wanted to accomplish In the coming years. Would our plans Include college, a job, or marriage after receiving that coveted diploma? Our dear exciting junior year came marching In through the doors of time. Tests, tests, tests — Scat and Step Included — marched right in too. Time hurried that year, and before we knew It, we were selling magazines for our Prom, DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES. No one except ourselves knew the happiness and the sense of accomplishment we felt as we walked into that finished gym with our dates. And no one except past seniors could know how wonderful we felt when finally we ordered our class rings and our calling cards. The BIS YEAR arrived on wings and flew by. We realized that each assembly and ball game we attended would be among the last as students of Powell Valley. That realization hurt, and yet, the prospect of something new challenged us to be brave. We were Seniors at last, standing on the threshold of a new life. We were leaving the security and youthful happiness of Powell Valley High S.chool with joyful, happy, and In many cases tear-stained faces. The strains of Pomp and Circumstance still echoed In our ears, and we clutched a diploma and a ' 65 tassel In our hands. It was difficult to think that twelve years had passed so quickly, and we hesitated. We hesitated, and then we stepped forward — forward Into our new life, leaving our alma mater behind. Yes, we were leaving Powell Valley behind, but not forgotten — never forgotten. President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Sponsors 25
