SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Wolfe, Wilson, Lile, Whited President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Sponsors Carlos Wolfe Beverly Whifed Nancy Lile Carolyn Wilson Miss Callie Darnel! Miss Lora Dingus Mrs. Grace Rose SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Now, as we stand on the threshold of a new beginning, it seems impossible that five years have passed since we first entered Powell Valley High School. We were so sure that we were the most important people in the world, because we were in high school. With the aid of many upperclassmen, we soon learned our true stations. We were pee-dabs to the other stu- dents and know-nothings to the teachers. We learned that respect and friendship did not come automatically with high school, but had to be earned. We were truly excited, because we were to be the first class to begin the eighth grade at Powell Valley. Each of us remembers with mixed feelings those first few days here. All the rooms looked exactly alike, right down to the cardboard boxes laughingly referred to as trash-cans. But fortunately we were not alone, for that first week every- body wandered into rooms searching for the right one. One of the greatest thrills came with the beginning of football season. Now we had a team of our own for which to yell our hearts out. And yell, we did! If nobody else really appreciated us those first few months, the cheerleaders did for we gave them all our support. Throughout basketball, track, and baseball seasons, we gave our all to become part of Powell Valley. The fall of I960 opened our ninth grade, which passed amazingly fast. We were finally able to join clubs and begin really giving of ourselves to our school and community. Our boys began playing junior varsity football and basketball. They laid the foundations for their important roles in sports in the future. The tenth grade marked a turning point in our lives. Here we began to realize that scholastic achievements are important. To bridge this transitional period, we were forced to become more serious in our studies. On the lighter side, our social schedule was filled with ball games and Key Club record hops on the week-ends. In the eleventh grade, we began to make long-range plans and to try to find answers to several questions. What are my plans for the future? Am I going into college after graduation? Or will I get married after graduation? That year we sold magazine subscriptions to help pay for our Junior-Senior Prom. It was truly the best one ever given. We worked Jong hours making flowers and stars to decorate for our theme, Al Dl La. All our work was worth the effort, for the prom really crowned a wonderful year. Now here we stand, remembering most vividly this past year with its rush, rush, rush. We kept saying, I can ' t wait to leave. Yet, here we are with tear-stained cheeks, wishing we could begin all over. We want once more to experience the pride we felt as we took our seats in front of the auditorium for assemblies. We want to relive the excitement of planning for our Washington-New York trip during spring vacation. We want to walk down these halls once more and to laugh and talk with our friends. We want to feel that we are still a part of this school. But those days are gone. We must go forward. Yes, this has been our most exciting year. And now, as we march down this aisle for the last time, we pause briefly to bid farewell to that security and happiness which dear old Powell Valley High has so generously given us. In the future, we will be able to look back with pride at our accomplishments and say, That was our moment of glory. 21
