SENIORS Wagner, Black, Williams, Mumpower CLASS OFFICERS President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Sponsors Gordon Mumpower —. Francis Williams - Sonia Black Barbara Wagner Mrs. Wilma Brooks Miss Callie Darnell Miss Lora Dingus How fast twelve years passed. And yet how slowly the days seemed to move at times. The days before a big sports event, a holiday, or a social activity dragged. But graduation arrived too fast for some of us—quickly enough for others. As a high school student we enjoyed security—a security that we have lost as we left Powell Valley High School. As we look back at the high school years we remember vividly our four years at Powell Valley High School. We could never forget our freshman year. This was the critical year of adjustment into high school activities. We were filled with pride to be a part of this great school. Our sophomore year flashes through our minds as a year of settling down and working hard on the courses we had chosen. The next year was our cherished jun¬ ior year. We sold magazines to raise money for our prom—“Springtime in Paris” and for our edition of the VALHALLA. We all have fond memories as we think back to the prom—the pride we felt that night as we walked into the gym and saw the results of all our hours of careful planning. As the junior year fades out of sight, we see ourselves excited over ordering our class rings and our calling cards. The summer following our junior year brought many pleasant memories for our representatives to Girls’ and Boys’ State. Once more on August 22, we entered Powell Valley High School. This time it was for our final year—the big year. There was much excitement and anticipation of finding out in which homeroom we would be. Our rings arrived on October 21. At last we had our first material proof that we had achieved seniorhood. We began making plans for the Washington trip. The senior play was another highlight this year. We’ll always remember the fine job the cast did with the help of the directors. How could we ever forget that beautiful prom the juniors gave us this year. In May the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” began to float through the halls. Then came the big night when we marched down the aisle to receive our diplomas. We marched proudly, but our vision was blurred by a tear or two that escaped. Then before we realized it, we were marching back up the aisle—each to a different destiny. 10
