ational Junior Honor Society S Z f x? Q ZW' 5 tiff' 2 This year, NaTional Junior Honor SocieTy has really been up To a loT. They sponsored boTh of The all-school dances in November and February. They also helped supporT Handicapped Awareness Week by Touring physically handicapped sTudenTs from Parkway around The Powell campus. ln reTurn, The Tour guides were shown around The Parkway campus by Their Teachers and a few of Their sTudenTs. AT ChrisTmas Time, They wenT To The Mesa Vo-Tech nursery and spenT an hour There, giving The children reindeer candy-canes, and leTTing Them visiT wiTh special guesT, SanTa Claus. AT The end of The firsT semesTer, The NJHS came To school and served The Teachers breakfasT while They finished grades. Enough abouT whaT They did QalThough They did much morey. How abouT whaT They are? NaTionaI Junior Honor SocieTy is a group of people who rank high in areas such as ciTizenship, leadership, service, and characTer. They achieve a 3.5 GPA aT leasT Three consecuTive Times in a row. NJHS is a growing socieTy ThaT inducTs aT leasT fifTy new members each year. And Though The Honor SocieTy is governed by The sTudenTs belonging To iT, They are sponsored by Teachers who moTivaTe Them and give Them new ideas. Powell Takes Cultural Pride Mrs. lrene Frias sponsored The newly- formed Chicano Pride Club This year, which boasTed of 50 members. lT was a class open To all races. They worked on projecTs such as making valenTines for nursing home paTienTs, and They marched in The Mesa Day Parade.
