HB squad coach in wrestling. and coached the sprinters in track. This was luis last year in Powell and the school will miss him. Coach Kohnlxe was the head track coach, This was the first time in 12 years that his team didn't win the district. That record itself shows the caliber of coach he is. Sr. Tackle Blocking ability makes Powell's dive play very effective. ls also a real hustler on his downfield blocking assignments. Defensively, a strong pursuer and is in on many tackles. Plays low and strong. Hard to move. An ex- cellent competitor. U st line- mun. Not too fast. but diagnoses the play well and will l1it. Def:-nsively plays the inside LB. and is hard to fool. Excellent competitor and tough 29 hoy. Pete Vfzself 190111. Sr. End Fine all around boy: Particularly tough defensively. Difficult to sweep his end. Will 11it blockers low and tough. Good use of hands. Blocking ability makes Powells offensive tackle play very effective. Excellent pass- receiver. Mr. Kohnke coached the first track team and the cinder- men have continued to win a remarkable number of district championships. llc also coached basket- ball and football. He came In teach chemistry and physics and has been teaching here ever since. Mrs. Kohnke first taught P.E. and English. and taught them for four years. He received the Dean's honor hook upon grad- uation from the liniversity of Wiyorning with a B..-X. in education and later earned an NIA. in administration with a Kappa Delta l'i honorary: He was a state director for Wiy om- ing of the NEA for eight years. president of the WEA and Vice President of NEA in 1911. He married Nlable Ann Jones. a first grade teacher. The Kurtzes now have two daughters in high school. Hr. Kurtz served as principa1 of Evanston ele- mentary' schools for eight years followed hy' an equal numher as principal of the high school. He was elected to the superintendency' at Re- liance where he remained eight years. He then went back to Evanston as superintendent for eight more years. There he was the dedication speaker for their new elementary school. Mr. Kurtz represented Wyoming with the Flying Classrooms to Europe in 1050 sponsored liy' Nlichigan State College. 1nvited to come to Powell as superintendent in 1957. he supervised the expanding huilding program: Southside Grade School. the Yatator- ium-Auditorium. and the Senior lligh School. lle was elected to honorary' memhership in the Fhoshoni F17-X Chapter and is now president of the Big Horn Basin Xdministrators. president of the Wyoming School gydministrators .Nssof-iatiori. and president of Rotary. After twelve vears of growing up and learning together we are aliout to part . . . hut we should he happy' as we anticipate the opportunities of the future. We began our education in what is now the administration huilding: the gymnasium and Park- side School were completed and in use the fall we were second graders: fifth grade saw the Cottage put to use. Entering high school our class won third prize on our float . . . hut that's enough said about our floats. The .-Xuditfvrium-Yatatorium was dedicated our freshman year and now we see the new senior high school nearing completion. Klany of us seniors were disappointed not to attend classes in the new high school . . . but we shouldnt feel too had. because our children and grandchildren will he going to this school. Wie are all very' fortunate to have received a wonder- ful education, We are thankful that our parents cared so much as to assure our educational advantages and opportunities.
