Lpper classmen xt lrst' Thats rrght really junnors Our offrcers were anne Anderson Presrdent Russell Moore Vrce Presndent Sandy Furlong Secretary and Alrce Baker Treasurer Not benng content wnth the achievements durrng under clrssmen days 51 dxcl nt the hard way hy rts performmce ofL11lle W amen on November 17 and 18 1949 'lhe story of the four March srsters jo Beth Meg and Amy portrayed ancl relnvecl neun wrth the astuteness of profes sronal actors brought new glory to the class of 51 Though no legs were broken 1 double cast was used Although hampered by obstacles such as hrvmg to deco rate the gym rn two days the junror Senror Prom and Banquet the soeral event of PHS was an outstandrng achrevement because of the cooperatlon and drllgence of members of the class of 51 Ray Chrrstensen served as Master of Ceremonies The decoratrve theme of the prom was Candyland The entrance a replrca of 1 glngerbread house was further embellrshed by lolly pops suspended from the gymnasnum cerlrng The King and Queen Don Easton and Norma Graham began therr rergn by breaking through a huge candy box that was burlt around the door Semors' That day whrch seemed an rmposs ble dream but three years ago had at last become a reallty The elect of the Semors for the school year 1950 51 were jrm Castberg Presrdent Curtrs Hunter Vrce Presldent Dona Farmer Secretary and Joyce Hawley Treasurer Although three tests threatened to sporl that whrch would otherwrse be a grand and glorrous year the bar ner was overcome Consequently the last high school days were most yoyous The brg events of the year were the class play Uncle Fred llrts By and the unror Senror prom Our success as a class was due dlreetly to the rntellrgent and understandmg gurdance of our sponsors Mrss Krogs dale and Mr Thompson thru all four years and Mr Earp whose genral understandlng added much to the helped us solve our many problems and shared our yoys as students No words can fully express our apprecratron to three swell people As a class we have grown to appreerate each of our members and through the years the bond of frrendshxp has developed to an extent not generally characterlstxe of most classes Four of our members have marrted others are plannrng to as rs evrdent by the brrllrant flashmg of dramonds and radlant smrles Seventy two of the class of 51 have successfully completed therr HS days It 18 hoped that we have served well as students for no longer are we a group worklng together but mdrvnduals seekmg varnous degrees of success wk .2-...N llIll The times change, and we change wrth them . . , 4 7 A L l S A 'j J' , Q U , 9 , A V , A 1 ' 1 S 'Q ' V - K f A V 1 I , ' V , - ' 1 , . . . . X gy 6 'ilu- .....-ai' Way back when We the class of 51 107 strong first entered the hills of PHS on September 8 1947 Fresh from the run of unior High we made our way cautiously through the gantlet of sophomores and uppcrclassmen Despite our newly tound timidity we miintained enough of our old courace to elect is our officers Sim haw mo President Beverly Pederson Vice President Birbara Clark Secretary and Donni Burgess 'Ircasurer Our frrst full realization that we were but lowly fresh men was forcefully thrust upon us by the ditbolical sophomores through that remnant of the Spanish Inquis tion more commonly known as initiation. During that day of humility we were forced to wear strange and ludicrous carb perform insane stunts, and acknowledge our per- secutors by chanting., Oh mighty Sophomore. The class of 50 proved to be 1 bunch of good eggs after all by way of a dance in our honor and by treatinc us to double- decker ice cream cones. XX'e honored the sophomores with a carnival dance fea- turing., a downpour of confetti -ind burstinti, balloons. The class of 51 sought further distinction by an assembly. a take-off on the comic strip Lil Abner starring Russell Moore as Abner and Bev Pederson as Daisy Mae. Freshmen class members wrote the script and created the square dances performed in the program. The freshmen further proved their mettle by 3.,.1inini., . tie for the Basketbill Championship with the hitherto unbeatable Seniors in the first intra-scholastic basketball tournament held in the Powell School System. The team was supported by a spirited first class pep band. Did it helpf The results speak for themselves. 54111221- A sursey of the new Soft mores disclosed that some of the emerald had been left behind some of the angelic md eherubic qualities were to be no more in their stead a wiser much wiser class entered school in the fill of 1 R We were guilty of irritlting, our instructors a fine example was the diseosery that biology tables were far more at tractive lying on the floor than standing, up on the loosely iointed legs Another condition uncosercd during, the year was the willingness of our beloved friend Coich Roberts to recite his war experiences It has oft been said all Work and no' play makes the Soph a dull class man. In spite of the admissions of being somewhat faeetious the sophomores proved they had the stuff. Initiation of the Freshmen? Still smarting from the initia- tion of one year ago the Sophs were determined to find new and better ways of taming freshmen. Though not sadistically inclined we sure enjoyed ourselves much to the discomfort of the class of 1952. Again the class of 51 wrote and produced an oricinal program' the first of its kind presented ti the public by a sophomore class, The program represented the activities of an active radio station with its complete repertoire including a fine 22 piece orchestra and was 'i hilarious success augmented by the effective operations of the sound effects men Leslie House and Earl Gillison. Our next assembly. in honor of the Seniors was a review of their four years in high school. Of course each year must have its big, wheels-whoQ Bev Pederson President' 'lanie Anderson, Vice Presidentg Rus- sell Moore Secretaryg and lastly but far from least Marv Smith Treasurer. sr
