Senior Class History Moving upstairs in the fall of 1956 was quite an event for us. Our timidity soon wore off, after the Sophomore class initiated us. Do you remember a dozen babies running through the halls, clutching baby bottles in one hand and teddy bears in the other? David Obert, class president, was assisted by Barry Gekeler, Junior Vanderpool, and Sherry Hutchinson. Mrs. Virginia P y a t t was our advisor and Janet Chandler was Carnival princess. At last, a chance to get even! The year was 1 957 and we were Sophomores. The poor freshmen suffered through initiation and then we gave them a party. Our class grew smaller as David Obert left during the previous summer to attend school at Elgin. We gained two new girls, Aloma Hensley, who attended for three weeks, and Diana Rich, who was our classmate for the first semester. Also, there was a new boy. Gene Puckett. Class officers were Donald Nice, president; Janet Chandler, Sherry Hutchinson, and Diana Rich. We were supervised by Mrs. Claribel Hammond and our Carnival princess was Kathleen Nave. As Juniors, we were known as “the smallest class with the larg- est job. Gene Puckett and Lee Shaffer transferred to other schools, leav- us with only eight members to put on the Junior-Senior Prom. Junior Van- derpool dropped out after half a year but Charles Hoffman took h i s place. Cake raffles, scrap iron drives, ball game concessions, and Christ- mas card sales were o n I y a few of our money-making projects. The theme for our Prom was Southern Gardens. The dancers were carried back into the days of the Old South. Class President Barry Gekeler was assisted by Janet Chandler, Helen Stultz, and Sherry Hutchinson. Class advisor was Mr. Marvin Vancil and Carnival princess was Sherry Hutchinson. Ah, Seniors! Our big time had arrived at last. And again, our class was the smallest in high school. Janet Chandler transferred to Hood River, Oregon, and Betty Wagner joined us from Denver, Colorado. Bob Wiening finished his high school education during the first semester and Charles Hoffman left us at the same time. This year our class ad- visor was Mr. Jack McGoldrick. Class officers were. Sherry Hutchinson, president; Helen Stultz, and Betty Wagner. The theme for our traditional Senior Ball was An Old-Fashioned Christmas. Helen Stultz scored high this year as both Carnival princess and Pep Night queen. We have spent four wonderful years at Powder Valley High School. The many memories will always be held dear to us. Juniors The Junior class started a busy yeo with better-than-ever plans for making money. Concession stands, cake raffles, the selling of flower bulbs, work days, and class-sponsored dances were only a few proj- ects of the hard-working Junior class. Jeannie Huddleston, from Long Creek, Oregon, began her Junior year at Powder Valley High ond then transferred to Port- I a n d, Oregon during Christmas vacation. Bruce Christman transferred here from Baker, Oregon, for second semester. The Junior class advisors were Mrs. Gene Hammond and Mr. Marvin Vancil; car- nival princess was Ula Mae Tefft.
