SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1955 fourteen green freshmen, eight from North Powder and six from Muddy Creek, began their long Journey through high school. The class grew smaller when Melvin Tibbs moved to Washington. Under the guid- ance of two advisors, Mrs. Juanita Stokke and Mr. Arthur Woodbury the class elected Karen Marsing, Charles Cropp, Marsha Lillard, and Jo Ann Gard as class officers. After surviving a humiliating two days of freshman initia- tion, several class parties were held. Marsha Lillard was elected carnival princess. The class really worked hard, selling raffle tickets to everyone we knew and our efforts paid off when Marsha was. crowned queen. She had the honor of ruling over the evening's festivities. Sophomores at last, and a chance to inflict initiation on those poor scared freshmen. Under the direction of Mrs. Gene Hammond, class advisor, the following officers were elected: Marsha Lillard, President; Frank Pfel, Vice-president; Karen Marsing, Secretary-treasurer; and Jo Ann Gard, Re- porter. At the carnival our class received the honor of having our princess, Jo Ann Gard, crowned queen. This was achieved after more hard work of tramping the sidewalks, selling tickets. We missed several of our class- mates this year with the loss of Dianne Boyer, LeMoyne Titus, Zona Taylor, and Junior Vanderpool, who had dropped back one year because of illness. Our third year and we finally reached the ranks of upper-classmen. As Juniors Barbara Payne was elected as our leader and Jo Ann Gard, Denece McCanse, and Karen Marsing assisted her. The class advisors were Mr. Wilber Larsen and Mrs. Robert Byrd. Denece McCanse was elected carnival princess, but the lowly freshmen beat us in raffle ticket sales so we did not get our candidate as queen. When the semester came around we lost three members of our class, Marsha Lillard, Karen Marsing, and Steve McNeal. This left us only seven members. Money making projects were thought up and put into action since this was our year to work and earn money for the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. A play, For the Love of Pete , was presented under the direction of Mrs. Ken Chatwood and was a big success. We worked very hard, selling Christmas cards, cans of candy, and operating the concession stand at all ball games. We also raffled cakes at the games; this was a very successful way of making money. Everyone called us misers but we were really Just working hard. We wanted to show everyone that our small class could have the best prom and banquet ever. After much hard work the time for the big event arrived the last of April. Fantasia was our theme for the banquet and prom and it was a tremendous success. After the prom we relaxed for the rest of our Junior year. Seniors!!! At last the big year arrived. Mrs. Robert Byrd was our class advisor. Charles Cropp, Mary Jo Bodewig, Lee Allen Schima, and Jo Ann Gard were our class officers. Additions to the class were Lila Umpleby, Robert (Bob) Wiening, and Ivan Perrin, who had to attend half a year. Lila Umpleby was elected carnival princess. To earn money for our Senior Sneak we gave the traditional Senior Ball. Our theme was Frosty the Snowman . About the first of February we presented a Senior Class Play (with the assistance of certain sophomores). Here Comes Charlie was directed by Mrs. Byrd and was a hilarious three act comedy. We will always remember the fun, and work, we have had in our high school days at Powder Valley High School, but one especially bright spot, which we will all always remember, is our Senior Sneak . MOTTO: The end is important only if it is the beginning of something better. FLOWER: Pink Rose COLORS: Pink and White
