A.F.S. Enrica Porta is the pert American Field Service student you see around campus. She is from Arcore Italy. Miss Porta, 17 is staying with the Kelvin McKay family of Poway. The students there start elementary school at the age of 6. They attend the same school with the same teacher and same classmates for five years, and then they go to junior high school for three years. In junior high school they study Latin, Italian, one foreign language, geography, mathematics, science, physical education and religion. Since almost all the people are Catholic, they have religion in the schools. After junior high school, you have to decide what subject you will specialize in during your high school years, which can be three to five years depending on the subject. Each high school has a special program, such as science or literature or technical training. Enrica is in the school of science, so her most intensive study is in that subject, But each year they add more classes in other subjects so they get a well-rounded education.
