DRAMA Interview by Jean-Claude Van ltallie examines through a form of verbal and physical choreography the mechanization of life in modern urban America. Four nervous job applicants from various classes of life are questioned by four bland interviewers in smiling masks. The interview begins to reduce the applicants to a gasping blinking chorus, and when they retreat into the air, the street completes the process. A young girl trying to find her way to Fourteenth Street runs a gauntlet of spastics, creeps. drunks, bizarre couples: a telephone operator is given surgery with the actors turning themselves into a failing respiratory machine, one unhappy man is given the usual ritual advice from his analyst while another is given customary silence by his priest: a candidate for governor dispenses hollow rhetoric on the subject of rats, red tape, four air, and Vietnam: and the play ends with the entire Cast marching off, their mouths opening and closing in a dehrimanized language l My fault Excuse me Can you help me? The Crucible was an exciting drama about the puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem is a combination of historical play and timely parable about certain immediate parallel issues in our contemporary society- the irresponsible pressures which are brought to bear on free men with the evasions and dishonesties into which cowardly men are daily slipping, A powerful drama, Strongly written. The story tells how small lies- children lies-build and build until a whole town is aroused and 19 men and women go to the gallows for being possessed of the Devil They are good men and women, upright, hardworking, compassionate and god-fearing. The story focuses upon a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife's arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie and here in this trial scene is the big moment- it is a thrilling, bloodcurling, terrifying scene as it depicts the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused, imprisoned, and condemned,
