The Jazz-Rock Ensemble was formed last year. lt consists of the old big-band instru- mentation but the music comes from it in a very different manner. Recently, the band entered its first com- petition at Chaffey College and was surprised with a Superior Rating and a Third Place Trophy. Later in the year the Band competed in the South- western College Jazz Festival. Many times during the year this band is called upon to perform in concert. The Varsity Band is a very fine one that has gained the reputation at PHS as one of the most spirited groups on campus. They play for all away football games, all home basketball games, and generally try to promote pep and spirit to all athletic contests.
