CROSS COUNTRY The 1972 Titan Cross Country Team finished runner-up in the Avacado League with 8 wins and one loss. Poway's only loss was to a strong 1971 defending CIF Runner-up, San Dieguito. The 1972 Titan runners were paced by a group of strong runners who set numerous school records. Mark Tylman again established a new school record, This year his mark of 9:36 lowered his 1971 mark of 10:05. Mark was pressed hard throughout the season by junior Bill Martin and senior Mel Hallam. The closeness of these boys is illustrated by the fact that Martin finished the season with a 9i37, a second off Mark's school record. Mark Crandall, Charles Chapman, Brain McMahhon, Curtis Fonseca and Fred Zuill rounded out a strong pack. ln addition, Charles Gus Bregy established a new junior varsity mark and Bill Le Menager broke Tylman's frosh record.

In our 15-50 win over Escon- dido, 28 seconds separated our eight entries, all of who finished ahead of the Cougars No. 1 man. Against Vista High, in a meet we won 20-39, Poway had seven runners finish under ten minutes for our best team performance ever. Finally, our runners beat out Crawford and Granite Hills to go to the CIF finals for the first time ever, Mark Tylman and Bill Martin finished the year in the Avacado League Top 10, as No. 5 and No, 6 runners respectfully.
