The 1973 Titan Track team proved to be strong from the beginning of the season when they upset defending CIF champion Vista in the Palm Springs Relays to win the large school crown. This year's team was led by versatile Robert Thornberg and a strong contingent of runners that included Mel Hallam, Phil Pohle, Charles Bregy, Fred Zuill, Mark Tylman, Mark Crandall, and Bill Martin. Top performers in the field events included Mark Truncale, Mike Damewood, Keith Clark, and Dan Turner. Mike Greid joined Thornberg to make Poway's hurdle strength. The Poway Trackmen finished third behind Oceanside and Vista, the top two teams in San Diego CIF track. They also carried home many awards in four invitational track meets to rank as one of the best Poway track teams ever.
