Mg I bimmr. 5 ... ,fe VARSITY WATER POLO Poway's Water Polo team established a winning tradition in its first year of existence. The team started off with 8 straight victories upsetting Oceanside and Vista along the way, The team was represented by ten seniors and four underclassmen who worked 8 weeks during the summer learning the skills which made them contenders in both the C.I.F. and Avocado League, They finished in a tie for second with Vista in the league and qualified for the C.l.F. Championship, This team's greatest qualities were determination, aggressiveness and an unyielding endurance and desire to win, They ended up with a 13-5 total C.l.F. record which was the fifth best record in the county, Coach lVlello, above, speaks about the water polo team at the homecoming pep assembly. Tennis Team was coached by Coach Marincovich, The team really played well this season. They ended up with a 17-2 record overall and 10-2 in the league. Their greatest victory was their final one over league champion Fallbrook 9-8. This was the first loss for the Fallbrook J.V. in two years of competition. The J.V. style of play was one of quickness and tremendous offensive team play. Man for man the starting J.V. team was faster than the varsity squad for pure speed. All the starters were freshmen and sophomores so the future looks bright for Poway's water polo.
