College Prep Students Nome Their Colleges The college preparatory cur- riculum offered a wide variety of courses for those students planning to attend an institute of higher education. The course was not limited to college prep students: many business and vocational students enrolled in selected courses. For the past five years emphasis has been placed on a writing pro- gram designed to improve the writing skills of all students with special emphasis on the needs of college bound students who are re- quired to take SAT tests, write research term papers, and prepare expository essays. The history and English departments combined in team teaching on a number of these projects. Honors courses are offered in eleventh and twelfth grade English, and advanced biology, physics, and chemistry. Calculus and computer programming are also available. In 1983 approximately 350 students were enrolled in the col- lege prep program. Twenty to twenty-tive percent of the entire stu- dent body entered college or some other institution. Of the 85 senior college prep students, a majority received scholarships, merit awards, or bonds, depending upon the academic accomplishments and individual talents.
