Earl Strange and Miss Carolyn Longacre were the sponsors of this organization. Seventy- four boys and girls made up this volunteer unit at P. H. S. this year. Elaine Princenthal was the captain over all patrol members, and she acted as a substitute when other patrols were absent. The captain also supervised the duties of all those under her command with the assistance of three lieutenants: LaRue Hurter on the first floor, Margaret Allyn on the second floor, and Eerwindale Glenn on the third floor. Their duties included substituting for patrols who were absent and checking on all patrols on their floor. Four units comprised the organization-lunch patrol, study hall patrol, hall patrol, and fire drill patrol. The duty of the lunch patrol while sitting in the halls and doorways was to stop the students from going to their lockers. Study hall patrol duties included checking on students in the halls during classes and giving information to visitors. Twentyeight members of the hall patrol directed traffic in the halls when classes changed. The duty of the fire drill patrols was to go to assigned positions and direct students during the fire drills. Members of the safety patrol were often chosen to act as ushers for plays, operettas, and concerts or for any special programs sponsored by town groups Kneeling on Ground Paul Dallas Lloyd Hughes Donald Handley Farel Crosby Thomas Ingham William Yohn First Row Seated Barbara Bush Alrce Louise Erb Edith Dorang Marjorie Casselberry Shirley Smith Joanne Rennrnger Phyllis Shaner LaRue Hurter Elaine Prrncenthal Bervyrndale Glenn Margaret Allyn Jean Noel Marilyn Keffer Betty Moletress Dolores Samsel Sonia Eyenstad Second Row Standing Joan Kelm Doris Musser Frances Peterman Mary Ann Adams Joan Borgiet Nancy Overholtzer Joan ONe1ll Lrllran Mariano Shirley Jackson Miss Carolyn Longacre Third Row Patricia Rose June Wersser Louise Bechtel Agnes Rinehart Doris Burk Patricia Gibbons Katherine Vaughan Marion Zueno Betty Lou 'Irrnley Virginia Young Bonnie Ash Barbara High Bernardine Zawaskr Joan Fox Mr Earl Strange Fourth Row Richard Hermbach Thomas Rutter Robert Wrlkrnson Gerald Daly Raymond Sellnger Wil lram Embody Ronald Frederick James Long Wrllram Detterer Paul DeJeu Robert Marquette Mark Runkel Franklin Rennrnger Wilhelm, Mary' Kay Rettewl Barbara Yocum, June Zink. Slrfy LIBRARY COUNCIl Pupils with a sincere appreciation of books find that they may serve their school through membership on the library council. Students may become members of the council by working in the library one period a week or may serve as a regular staff member by working five periods a week. The major aim of the group is finding ways to arouse student interest in good reading material, while they also join forces to keep the books in repair and to make the library an attrac- tive, efficient place in which to work. Miss Eleanor Cornmesser sponsors the group which gathers the first Tuesday of every month for a social meeting. Some of these meetings are used for book reviews or interesting literary talks. The council holds an annual Christmas party and a spring excursion. Also those attractive bulletin board displays in the library and opposite the office on the second floor were faithfully planned and cared for by these ambitious students At the monthly meetings this year you could probably find Mary Faust the president taking charge or in case of Mary s absence Maryln Klein would call the meetmg to order Lynda Dannehower performed the duties of the secretary and Connie Kinckrner took charge of any money collected First Row Constance Kinckiner Maryln Klein Lynda Dannehovser Marx Faust Marx Ann Gilbert ITIHH Third Row Dena Nexenesch Beryl Rabrnovtrtz Shirley Fryer Betty Garner Virginia Rosenberry, Joyce Eshbach Fourth Row Marilyn Dennrsh Joan Kneller Miss Eleanor Cornmes er Vilma Psota Rae Kennedy Second Row: Dorothy Pollick, Phyllis Shaner, Betty Moletress, Mary Barrett, Dorothy Curry. H . . , , s v,,.p,,- STAGE CREW Although you may have enjoyed countless assemblies during your high school days, seldom did you think of what went on behind those bright lights and beautiful backdrops. The stage crew, under Mr. Arthur Emery's direction, could cause the success or failure of a production such as the senior class play or any of the concerts given by student musical organizations. Not only did these students control the curtains and lights which were used during the programs, but before the first rehearsal, scenery had to be assembled, repaired, altered, or supplemented just as the script ordered. Then they could be seen backstage between acts rushing to and fro with new settings: and long after a performance had been completed, they returned backdrops to the stockroom and cleared the stage in preparation for another perform ance The stage crew s activities were not limited to school activities but they were busy every time the school auditorium was used for civic act1v1t1es 9 1 Thomas Pollick, Norman Stetler, Robert Michener, Richard Rhoads.
