Pottsboro got a new Mitchell's supermarket and a new Dairy Queen, and moved the city limit to the front gate of Simmons Shores. As the size of Pottsboro town grew, the population of Pottsboro ISD grew. Willow Springs campus remained open for three very large kindergarten classes. Each campus gained a portable building to be able to accommodate such a large number of students. And when the results of the semi-annual district realigning came in, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. PHS had remained in AA classification by a small handful. .ff-ai.. sf- he-I.-. normal lnor' mall adj. 1. conforming to or constituting an accepted standard, model, or pattern, usualg standardg typical 2. having or demonstrating average intellectual or emotional development By Teresa Wheeler Why can we claim to be not normal? Because in no way has this been a normal year. Pottsboro has always had the reputation of being a tough competitor athletically and scholastically, but this year Cardinals of all ages towered above past expectations and standards and several times strayed very far from the norm. This year alone there were three foreign exchange students. Gioconda Darcia came from Costa Rica. Marek Harloff visited us from Hamburg, West Germany. And Carlos Ernanny represented Rio De Janiero, Brazil. Students in all grades involved scored high on TEAMS tests, having comparatively high percentiles of mastery. There were also new teachers in every building and new coaches on the field. The football and baseball teams advanced deep into the play-offs. And both the boy's and girl's basketball teams competed at the bi-district level. The OAP and seven people went to and placed at state in individual sports and academic events. There were approximately 40 people in the marching band, the largest number of members ever. The drill team had to cut routines to fit their seven-member line, but they pulled out some pretty impressive ones despite the fact. The yearbook staff only had two returning members. And out of nine staffers, there was only one male: Stacy. Top: Jill Garner and Mary Wood, homecoming queen runners-up, ride down Hwy. 120 in the annual Christmas parade. Bottom: Players, coaches, and fans react to winning another play-off trophy. The Cardinals advanced to regional competition where they fell to Lorena 26-42.
