Ray new PMS principal Ronny Ray, Pottsboro School Athletic Director, will be going from his present job to assume the duties of Pottsboro Middle School Principal. I'm 40 years old and I've had 10 great years coaching football at Pottsborof' said Ray. It's a career and a family move, it's time to make a change. This move has been in the back of my mind for two or three years, I've always had a desire to get into administration. Ray compiled a 75-32-5 record during his 10-year tenure winning five district titles and losing three times in the playoffs to eventual state champions. Coaching the baseball team for seven years, Ray had a 142-38 record winning six straight district championships and going to the state tournament in Austin three consecutive years C1980-829. I'm very sincere in this move being a two-fold thing. I want to spend more time with my family, he added. If I've got a disappointment, it's we didn't win a state championship. We were close so often. That disappointment passes quickly when you think of all the success we've had here, he continued. You like to think you're going out on top and that's the way I feel, added Ray. Ray graduated from Denison High School in 1967 and attended North Texas State University. His entire coaching career has been at Pottsboro. I would like to thank all the people in the area who have been supportive of our program. I'm very proud of what the overall athletic program accomplished during my stint as athletic director. We won over 30 varsity district championships in the last 10 years. I want to thank my wife, Jamie, too. She's probably the best coaching wife you could have. Superintendent Charley Chambless said it was tough saying goodbye to Ray as a coach, but added, he'll be just as good an administrator. Ronny did a tremendous job as a coach and athletic director. He didn't just push just one sport. He'd push tennis like football and it'll be hard to find someone else like that. I had to make this same decision some time ago and it's one all coaches have to make. You either stay with it all your life, or you get out while youive still got time to do something else. In addition to his other honors, Ray was named coach of the year by his district peers on four occasions in football. A
