PHS Band As football season approached, band members prepared for summer practice. From eight o'clock in the morning into the heat of the afternoon the band learned to march and prepared new shows. They then worked on honing their newly learned routines into precision works in the snowstorms of winter. At the first football game, the band proudly performed in new uniforms, and a new assistant band director, Mr. Greg Davis, was welcomed with his new ideas and extra help. Davis was previously an instructor in Sherman for six years. He has earned both his bachelors and masters degrees from NTSU. Under the direction of veteran Bill Yowell and drum major Tommy Meadows, the Cardinal Marching Band sported the largest field of musicians in the history of the band. In addition to marching, the band performed a spring stage concert and 12 members played with the North Texas Honor Band in Denton. As the school year wound to a close, band members were active in reorganizing a flag corps for the fall season. Below: All of the hard work and dedication paid off. The band gained a reputation of continued success as each performance was stepped out perfectly. 49
