'mfg tg Q his Brewton Captures Tennis Title After seven years without tennis par- ticipation, Christi Brewton represented Pottsboro as the only entry in the 17-AA district tournament this year at Austin College. Brewton received the first place gold medal by capturing the district championship in girls singles. She downed players from Howe and Van Alstyne in straight setsg 6-O, 6-2g 6-O, 6-Og 6-0, 6-1 respectively. However, Brewton was downed at Regionals by a top contender from Edgewood 6-4, 6-3 to end the season. Brewton is looking forward to next year in hopes of making a trip to the state tournament. A. Cardinals E 5 Fall Short -, Play-Off hopes for this year's varsity baseball team were shattered in the last district game with a 1-0 loss to the Whitewright Tigers. Overall, the Car- dinals had a fairly good year under third year coach Gary Clements. The 1984-85 team rounded out the season with a 7-10 record and even in district at 4-4, placing second behind Van Alstyne and Whitewright, who tied for first. The Car- dinals were lead by big hitting from senior Tim Harp and ace pitching by junior Jon Powell.
