But, since I have it let's get acquainted with the students of Pottsboro High School. Getting into the groove of things did not come easy for anyone at Pottsboro in 1985. With the implication of the new state laws there were many different opinions, viewpoints, and suggestions made by the students. In a poll conducted of the high we found some favorites, un- favorites, and some feelings on particular subjects. When asked about the new rules, one sophomore expressed himself with NO COMMENT!! . While others had com- ments that are against the rules to print. Not all of the state laws were voted down. The state implacted class of AC- TIVITY was voted as the most favorite class, while 'GEOMETRY beat BIOLOGY by only a few votes as the least favorite class. This year the lockers were decorated with everything from pictures of the famed to the not so famous. According to Speaking one Freshman, the locker was not the place to be, I HATE IT! THE PERSON ABOVE ME IS ALWAYS DROPPING THEIR BOOKS ON MY HEAD . While a Senior, who of course has a top locker, said, IT'S GREAT. IT IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO CATCH UP ON ALL OF THE LATEST RUMORS AND GOSSIP. Again this year, Pottsboro looked like Paris in the spring. Romance was in the air. Mr. Prindle made his usual announce- ment that the halls were not the place for any romance. The students had many comments on this lovely situation: STRANGE! , NOT ENOUGH HOMEWORK! and, IT SHOULD BE OFFERED AS A CLASS: THEN AT LEAST SOME PEOPLE COULD HAN- DLE IT A LITTLE MORE MATURELYI' When students had time away from studying and school they enjoyed going to the movies, listening to music, going out to eat, and just bumming around. Even though the state laws limited the time Ouf A for having fun, practical jokes, and just playing around, it was still plentiful and ridiculous as ever. A. Tammy Dutton and Jennifer Gilloud ask, What is going on over there? . B. Talking on the telephone is one of Shellee Pearsons' favorite pastimes. -E, ig . 4 X U I I I I N flclmol is. full of lnmclslnips: mul if-f:l:s:. This was completely rounded off by sharp outside shooting from Wallace Lewis 12nd team all districtl. Another asset which helped the Cardinalls winning season was their playing experience. They had four senior starters along with Sophomore Jeff Cordell fhonorable men- tioni - who had no problem adjusting to the pace of Varsity ball. The finale of the season came when the Cards defeated the number one pre- season pick - Whitewright tigers in two consecutive games to win the district title. The Juniors also sold candy to raise money for the prom, which was held April 19. According to many juniors, permed hair was the Min thing. Also fashionable were fluorescent hair ribbons, sweat- shirts, socks, shoes, jewelry and other such items. Most of the juniors were thinking about taking the SAT and ACT tests. Along with these thoughts came ideas of classes to take in preparation for college. Others worried about passing for the year. All in all, this junior class was like most other junior classes across the country, yet they were unique as a class and as individuals. A. Kim Fowler sorts Tom Wat items for F.H.A. B. The Fish, as called by most of the upperclassmen, are said to be the most spirited class to graduate from P.M.S. and proved it! They won more spirit sticks then ever won by any Freshmen class. Although frightened at first and not quite sure knowing what they were get- ting into they have risen to the occasion to meet the obstacles of high school. The Freshmen rallied together to pro- mote spirit during football season. Students dressed up as opposing team mascots, decorated each others faces, made large signs, and spirit boosters. Academically they were also active. They made their mark on the honor roll. Participated in classroom and out of the classroom experiments and projects. ln addition the class members were involved in band, drill team, athletics, FFA, FHA, and UIL. . A. This cry was voiced by irritated students as football season started the first week of school. But with the changes that occurred this year the Varsity cheerleaders did not have problems keeping school spirit alive. This year, the girls worked extremely well together con- stantly thinking of ideas to promote spirit for both football and basketball teams. The squad consisted of Angie Morris, Kel- ly Mitschele, Susan Williams, Rhonda Hensley, Suzette Tignor, Tammy Dutton, and Jennifer Guilloud. They could not in- terrupt classes to sell ribbons, except dur- ing activity period, and could not lead yells between classes on Fridays. In addi- tion to these changes the girls were able to come up with stunts that involved both Varsity and J.V. cheerleaders and skits that involved the football players. These activities were built around the numerous hours of painting signs and run throughs. During the summer, the squad attend- ed camp at ETSU in Commerce, winning the spirit stick one night and three superior and three excellent ribbons. A. Guilloud, late elected mascot, portrays spirit. With a class of 4 returning members from last year's staff, and 24 new members Mrs. Felecia Garvin had to begin with the basics of yearbook production. This posed a problem for everyone involved. Fun raisers were a major issue. The fund raisers included a spook house in the Halloween Carnival and a bake sale. Another major source of revenue was the selling of ads. The staff also changed publishers from a Kansas Company to Taylor Publishing, in Dallas. Though the staff had to overcome a Fall delivered book there were several new additions. The juniors worked hard by selling box after box of M8aM's, staying after school to work on decorations, and living with the new state law which kept them from being out of school the day of the prom. But after all the hard work, it finally came together. A tropical Paradise complete with palm trees, coconuts and pineapples was the setting for the Seniors of 85's last prom. Although nervous and excited, meeting and making new friends was not a difficult task. The new state laws which mandated essential elements affected kindergarten along with the other grades. These elements called for more study time and less play time. learned to During study time they print and recite the alphabet and numerals, as well as to express themselves orally. In addition to these skills their coloring and listening became much improved. Special activities the kindergarten was involved in the first semester in- cluded the carving of jack-o-lanterns in October, a Thanksgiving singing pro- gram portraying the children as Pilgrims and Indians, and the exchang- ing of gifts in December along with the traditional Christmas party. The second semester brought on ex- citing events such as the traditional Valentine's party, a trip to the livestock show, an easter egg hunt in April, and the annual Little Cardinal Relays. The end of the school year was topped off with an exciting kindergarten picnic. 146 Crystal Allen Angie Anderson Jennifer Austin JackikQBabb Justin Badgett Brandi Bishop Mishael Bertrand Michael Brandon Amanda Bullard Tamira Butler Casey Cassell Adrienne Cato Mandy Clayton Michele Cook Molley Dodd Gregory Dunnihoo Basil-Du Laney Mickey Garvin J usta Griffin Jason Griffith April Hardin Nikki Hearn Bobbie Jo Henson Tamara Holt Christopher Hope Geoffrey Hughes Michele Hundley Michelle Jackson 5' if 4 A..
