PHS Advances 24 To Regionals This year Pottsboro High School excelled in UlL events such as: one-act play, debate, prose, poetry, per- suasive and informative speaking, journalism, number sense, ready writing, typewriting, shorthand, science, spelling, and caculator. With all the crazy UlL trips, especially those to Wich- ita Falls in the snow, Pottsboro won district with a wide margin. Twenty-tour out ot approximately thirty people including three debate teams went to regionals. ln addi- tion Lisa Barnett won second place at state competition in short-hand. A. Patrick Vaughn- practices tor poetry competition. B. Lisa Barnett awaits the beginning ot shorthand competition at the state meet. C. Robert Crews reviews calculator techniques. D. 6 Debaters Advance To Ulla Regional 'Pottsboro Debate lst, 2nd, 3rd . . The three debate teams worked many hours, meeting each Monday night, and competed in various meets to prepare tor district competition held at Grayson County College. The hard work paid oft because all three teams earned a berth to regional competition in Stephenville. The teams formed included one senior debate team ot Mike Chiles and Leah Deaton and two novice teams consisting ot Andrea Wilson and Tim Perdue and lil Kirby and lerry Peterson. Prior to team selections novice debaters were paired with experienced partners so that they could receive tormal practice. The team ot Chiles and Wilson received second at Hirshi High in Wichita Falls. Chiles also re- ceived top speaker there. The Top ot Texas meet in Wichita Falls proved suc- cessful as both novice teams placed second and third. Wilson also brought home a top speaker award in the novice division. The meets held at Wichita Falls High School was successful with Chiles and Deaton bringing home a third. They also competed at North Mesquite High School. The debater's sponsored a garage and bake sale early in the year to raise money tor new cat-cases. A.
