First Grade Blends Fun With Learning Being in tirst grade was not a boring time ot lite for 40 young kids. Their school year was full ot various activi- ties. They learned to add and subtract and write simple stories. A They were entertained by parties at Christmas, Valen- tines, and an egg hunt at Easter. A Christmas program, Where is Santa , was held tor the PTO with many ot the students having individual roles. The year did not go by, however, without some incen- tive tor the children. They had a contest to honor the students who could read the most books by the end of the year. ln addition it the class had been especially good their teacher rewarded them with a popcorn or Rice Krispy party. A. Michael lnglis finds that learning can be tun with the aid of a recorded story. B. Several first graders take time out tor a milk and orange juice break. C. Stephanie Cook really enjoys her recess peri- od. D.
