Leah Deaton Chosen Queen Leah Deaton was elected Homecoming Queen tor the 1982-83 school year. She has been active in numer- ous aotivities throughout her high school years. Leah has been a varsity cheerleader and debate and annual statt member for two years each. She was FHA president her senior year, active in Qne-Act play tor three years and a member ot the varsity basketball team her junior year. Stacy Seat and l amie Lawler were the other two queen nominees. Stacy has been in track tour years, Cardinal mascot and an annual statt member tor two years. She was also an FHA officer and sophomore class favorite. lamie Lawler has been class secretary tor tour years, an FHA member and a junior varsity cheerleader dur- ing her sophomore year. Spirit Highlights Fall Activities Spirit prevailed through the fall months in many ways at PHS. Pep rallies really showed the spirit in Pottsboro as students participated in class rivalries. Spectators watched as Seniors presented football players with the Golden Chip Awards urging them to beat the CROP out of Farmersville. luniors, under the direction of Mrs. Connie Cassell, did everything from lying on the gym floor and spelling out PHS, to showing true school spirit by coloring their hair with red and white hair spray and dressing up in punk clothing. Sophomores and fresh- man were SPlRlT STRUCKH also. Freshman sported red and white balloons while Soph's made red and white pom pons. Pep Rallies weren't the only activities at Pottsboro. Several organizations had fund raisers to support their activities. A Chili Supper was sponsored October l5 by the Cardinal Yearbook Staff. The proceeds went toward the l983 yearbook. Candy bars, cheese and sausage, and jewelry were sold as fund raisers for drill team, band, and FFA and FHA respectively. During homecoming week, a bonfire was held for the first time since l979. Spirit rose along with the flames as several hundred Cardinal supporters from all over the community came to watch the festivities. Both boys and girls started the grind of the basketball season in the new gym-complex. Along with new gym and Cafeteria came a snack bar. lt was a first for the Pottsboro school system. Students now have their choice of foods, from regular hot lunches to hamburgers and shakes. ln other activities, the National Honor Society had an induction ceremony initiated six new members and rec- ognized officers. The FHA had a teacher appretiation breakfast. A. Mike Chiles plays a Farmer to present the Golden Chip Awards. B. Seniors show their enthusiasm at a pep rally in the stadium. C.
