Lewis and Shires Chosen Mr. and Miss PHS Each year the Pottsboro Student body elects two students whom they feel adequately represent the entire school. Being named Mr. and Miss PHS is a very sought after honor. This year the honor was bestowed on John Lewis and Shelly Shires. Both have gone to school at Pottsboro since kindergarten. John has been involved in football all four years of High School. In 1981 he was Split End. He also was elected Captain of the 1980-81 Varsity Team. John was involved in basketball for three years, track and baseball for four years. His Junior year he ran on the mile relay team that broke the school record and was a member of the baseball team that won third place at State. Besides sports, John was a photographer for the yearbook staff and he was involved in auto mechanics. John Lewis was also the escort for the 1980- 81 Homecoming Queen, Shelly Shires. Shelly has been feature twirler at Pottsboro for four years. She's been twirling since age 8 and has received over 200 awards and trophies. The last two years she competed in the State Twirling Competition. Shelly is also involved in track and basketball. She qualified for Regional Track in 1978 and in 1980 she also qualified for State. She has been on the Varsity Basketball team for four years and was Captain in 1981. Not only is Shelly very involved in athletics, but she was elected Homecoming Queen, Senior Class Favorite, and Senior Class Officer. She was on the Drill Team, Yearbook Staff and was an officer in FHA in 1979. Shelly Shires is also listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. A. Shelly Shires and John Lewis take time out from their hectic routines to share each other's company. B. John tries out a new camera for photography class. C. Shelly is escorted by fellow senior John Lewis during Homecoming festivities. D. Shelly practices for college twirling auditions. E.
