My--, his Banquet Honors PHS Athletes Outstanding athletes were recognized for individual accomplishments in many areas of sports at the annual All-Sports Banquet held April 30, 1981 at the Silver Wings Club. Awards were given to participants and to athletes who excelled in a particular sport. These included M.V.P., Dwayne Williams, offensive back, Jamie Johnsong offensive line, Greg Wright, defensive line, Barney Frazier, defensive back, John Lewis, and outstanding J.V. player, Keith Gaines. Awards for varsity boys basketball were M.V.P., Mark Price, and the hustle award, Keith Bates. The M.V.P. award for girls basketball went to Lori Peters and the hustle award went to Rhonda Thompson. For track, outstanding athlete awards were given to Shelly Shires and Casey Perkins. Tim Brown was given the golf award. The leading hitter for baseball was Tom Ceci with the leading pitcher award given to Dwayne Williams. Shires and Price were honored with awards as best all-around girl and boy athletes. Athletic academic awards were presented to Price and Kelly Fratto. Fratto was also named cheerleader of the year. The Sports Banquet was enjoyed by all who attended. A. Mike Crenshaw, Farren Mervicker, Alfred Morrison and Bob Miller enjoy the variety of foods at the All-Sports Banquet. B. Coach Ronnie Ray presents Dwight Travis with the Jim Henderson Fighting Heart Award. C. Mark Price proudly carries his award for being all-around boy athlete. D. Coach Bo Jones hands Diana Hensley her award for being a participant in track. Stairway to Heaven Chosen For Prom Theme t'Who are you going with? What does your dress look like? t'What color is your tux? Can we double with you'?', These questions and more are the epitome of Prom Fever . Tension mounted from Monday to Saturday as the countdown began. Those without dates tried frantically to find one in ways ranging from traditional to advertising, while those with dates waited patiently in their security. On the evening of Saturday, April 11, 1981, juniors and seniors arrived with great expectations. They were greeted by a theme of Stairway to Heaven carried out with two stairways, numerous stars, and a rainbow of colors. When the evening ended, all too soon, couples left on a high note of, Are you going to the lake? Jack-in-the- Box or McDonald's or would you rather go to Sambo's7 6'Let's go to Denny's'? My coursage is crushed! I have to have my tux back by Monday. A. Ailsa Sublett, Mike Windle, Cheryl Wright, Jeff Wortham, Diane Tucker, Gary Hawthorne, and Pam Shelby do the popular Cotton-Eyed Joe . B. Kelly Fratto and Woody Tignor await the reading ofthe senior will. ff Brandon Dillard takes time out from decorating in anticipation of the nights events. D. Becky Smithson and Bob Miller dance to music provided by KDSQ. 53 Seniors Receive Diplomas Laurie . . . Mark . . . Kathy. . . Robbie . . . Cheryl Wright. Ladies and gentlemen, the class of 19817 All tassles move from right to left in unison. A tassle is moved from right to left and another class is passed through the high school doors. 53 seniors received their diplomas as members of the class of '81. As each graduate was handed his or her diploma a feeling of accomplishment and relief prevailed. The hours of study every night for four years yielded a definite goal in the end. Self-esteem rose with every step taken toward the platform. When descending from the platform graduates were handed a red rose. This rose was presented to mothers in appreciation for the love and understanding that helped each graduate through school. Shelly Shires opened the ceremonies by giving the Invocation. The Valedictorian and Salutatorian speeches were given followed by the speaker, Howard Rainwater. Awards were presented by PTO President, Mrs. Jo Helen Branham and Principal, Mr. Frank Prindle. The diplomas were presented by Superintendent, Charlie Chambless and the ceremonies were concluded by Renee Prindle who gave the Benediction. A. Howard Rainwater addresses the graduation crowd. B. Mrs. Jeannie Guilloud congratulates honor graduate Lisa Kennon. C. Seniors display enthusiasm by tossing caps into the air. D. Joey Griffin, Ron Mitchell and Donald Hofmann relax before the commencement exercises. E. Cheryl Wright and Diane Tucker add the finishing touches. G. Seniors had a few moments to reflect on memories before entering the football stadium. F. Clinton Salyer leaves the platform with his diploma. X ... .X wi. K
